The whole family went to see this tonight and WOW. It was much better than I thought it would be. Even my 13 yr old DD loved it! The audience cheered and you could see guys all over the parking lot on their phones talking about how great it was. Anyone who has doubts about seeing this one, just go- you won't be sorry. DD and I are already planning to see it again.popcorn::

Ok not a Trekkie here, but omg, it was so incredibly good!

Dh and I are going this morning again and then we have plans to meet friends tonight to see it!

Our family loved it too! They're all geared up to go back again on Saturday! $$$$$$$ You don't have to be a huge fan to enjoy the movie. :thumbsup2

We'll be seeing Star Trek in Imax later today! :thumbsup2 Can't wait! :goodvibes

I do love Star Trek and a few of the TV Series. I am going to see it in an IMAX Theatre on Monday! I am anxious to see it.

I'm glad to hear! I've had my doubts, but was already planning a trip to see it after graduation on Saturday. Now I'll DEFINITELY be going! :)

My DH wants to see it and I would see it also, but can you please tell me...is it really bad for a 9 year old? What is the PG-13 rating for?

Thank you!!

I had a lot of doubts about this movie. The previews made it seem like it was all flash and special effects and no plot. Ok it had some plot and the characters were pretty well thought out. I ended up really enjoying it. No it is not the best Star Trek movie ever made...I reserve that title for First Contact but it is a good movie.

That's good to hear. Because the last time I took the kids to see the last Star Trek movie, they feel asleep in the theater. They are obviously not Trekkies. :confused3

Glad to hear the positive review of it, my DH really wants to see it so I guess I'll be going. He loves his Star Trek!

We took our kids ages 4 (almost 5), 10, and 13. The violence was very mild, there was a brief kissing scene on a bed but everyone still had underwear on. No "F" bombs. Some tense scenes, but for a nine year old, if he likes action, no big deal.

I really enjoyed it. DH is a total Trekkie (he has boxes and boxes of ALL the old episodes and movies on tape, plus books, etc) and he loved it.

His reasoning: Since this movie explored an "alternate reality" they can spin off a TON of new movies starting from this point!

There's a good website for parents called www.kidsinmind.com, and they will tell you exactly (and I mean, exactly) what happens in every movie so you can make the decision whether or not to let your kids see the movie.

I can't tell you how much it saved my kids' psyches, like when friends were like, Oh, Pirates of the Caribbean shouldn't be pg 13, there was nothing in it, and I read the info on kids in mind and was like :scared1:-it totally wouldn't have been appropriate for my kids. We saw it later and the website was dead-on. :thumbsup2

The only bummer is, you can look at their gauges for violence, language, etc, but if you read the nitty gritty, you'll know the WHOLE movie...

VERY cool to see all of the positive reviews. SSB is major Trekker ... and greatly looking forward to seeing it this weekend!

Star Wars took total advantage of this!

I wouldn't consider myself a "trekkie" but I was "alive" during the original show and watched it obsessively! Had a MAD crush on Spock, so much that I couldn't even watch the show if he had a "love interest", which was NOT often! :lmao: Unlike Kirk, who had a love interest on almost every episode!

Just saw it this afternoon - loved it! I want to go and see it again this weekend. Wish I could go back and see it again tonight!

I do have a few small complaints, but I'll save them for another day so I don't spoil anything for anyone.

Early on I wasn't thrilled with a new ST movie coming out but as the months went on I got more and more excited. DH and I went tonite and WOW! LOVED it!

I have to ask though.....am I the only weirdo who got a little weepy with the narration at the end? (those who've seen it, I think you'll know what I'm talking about)
Gawd getting weepy just thinking about it! LOL

DH & I are not Trekkie's and I didn't like Star Trek as a kid. Is this movie only for die hard Star Trek fans? The previews look good, but I'm scared to go see it since we both did not like Star Trek as a kid?
