Who else is waiting for school supply lists?

missypie - Thanks for explaining. It is kind of wasteful to have to replace everything each year. I guess some of the stuff ends up supplementing the school's supplies. I know the teachers get next to nothing in the way of money for supplies for their classrooms.

JMHO but I think its ridiculous for teachers to require specific brands of items especially if they aren't widely available. Let kids use their imagination, buy colors and styles they like as long as the items meet the functional needs of the class. DD's list even specified required colors for various items. Come on - focus on learning, not what color her pencil box is.

My daughter is going into kindergarten this year and her supply list was:

100 (yes ONE HUNDRED!) pencils
2 8 ounce bottles of school glue
2 packs of kindergarten crayons
4 marble notebooks
2 folders
1 pencil box
1 crayon box
1 8 count box of markers
large pink eraser
sissors
back pack
lunch box
snack box (must have 2 boxes, can't put the snacks in with the lunch or the kids tend to eat everything at one time)
1 smock
3 large boxes of tissues
1 pack of baby wipes
1 pack of brown paper lunch bags
1 box of ziplock bags$5.00 for the weekly reader
1 month worth of milk/juice money for snacktime
Unreal. When my oldest was starting kindergarten, I didn't know what to buy, either, so I guessed. The teacher sent it all back home and said that it's easier at this age to have a class set of crayons to pick up, a class set of markers, etc. The only thing she needed was a backpack. The same was true for DS, but he'll be in 5th this year. I wonder if it will be the same when youngest DS gets there. Because of all the budget cutbacks, I won't be surprised if we are asked to just donate to the "class set."

I've seen a few wild items but that's one of the wildest. Is your daughter supplying the entire kindergarten class? I doubt I used 100 pencils in all my years of school.

I wondered that too but its on every kids list so there will be 2000 pencils in the classroom!! I asked my daughter if they expect to use them once and throw them out LOL!!

OMG! I didn't know how good we have it! My boys' school provides EVERYTHING. The only thing we buy is a backpack and a lunchbox if they want one. When they started Kindergarten the school even provided the backpacks for them, I'm not sure if they still do that for Kindergarteners or not, but they did for my boys (now going into 5th and 6th grades). A couple of times I bought them folders and notebooks thinking they "should" need them and they were returned unused as they wanted everyone to have the same, school-provided ones. My younger son had a teacher last year who wanted them to use highlighter markers for some things and she even provided those, though I think she purchased them herself. I never knew that some schools required you to provide so much on your own... .

I will be honest with you - I have never heard of schools giving out supply lists.

My DD just graduated from HS in June and DS will be a sophmore - school starts next week. We have never received a supply list. And we always just buy pens, pencils, notebooks, and folders.

Our school supplies the agenda book, glue, markers, etc.

In elementary school we used to get a note from the teacher asking for a box of kleenex.

Boy, I thought our school taxes were high, but I guess I'm glad they are! I'd feel horible for those people who dont have the extra money to spend on school supplies that are used in the school. GEEZ, where are your school property taxes going?

DD8 is going into 3rd grade, and needs NADA. ZIP, ZILCH nothing for school supplies. DD6 is going into 2nd grade and AGAIn, NADA!

Our schools supply the kids in K-2 (that I know of, not sure bout 3rd yet) with a pencil box, 5 pencils, ruler, erasers, pencil grips, crayons and colored pencils at the beginning of each year. They also get a homework folder, a reading block folder, and a math journal folder.

At the end of the year, if they have any of this stuff left, it comes home on the last day with the kids. They've both still got pencil boxes from Kindergarten!

I do replenish the supplies at home at this time of year, just last week staples had an awesome sale on crayons/rulers/pencils etc. and 5 packs of spiral notebooks. At home, they each have a pencil box with a handful of pencils, erasers, ruler, scissors, glue stick, crayons, colored pencils, pencil sharpener, and a pack of spiral notebooks.

They need these things for homework, and since they are kept all together, they grab the pencil box, head to the table, and homework they do!

I'm thankful we dont have to supply school supplies for our public school system!

Brandy
