Who else is still unofficial?

Just wondering how many others out there, like me, are planning without being officially engaged?

I know I will be soon - we have the ring, my boyfriend and I are discussing all the plans together and we want to be married before he goes back to grad school in Fall 2006. It's hard though because until he actually proposes, I can't bring the family/friends/co-workers in on the plans (and find out minor things like how the parents will react to a Disney wedding, how much of the bill they might be willing to foot, etc.). I'm sure most people would think it was kind of strange to be doing so much planning before I'm even engaged, but I know people on this board will understand.

In any case, I'm curious how many other people are in similar situations.

Don't worry.

I'm kinda planning our wedding and it's probably going to be a few years before I get married - my BF and I are still in Uni and are planning to move in together and stuff first before we get married (although I imagine he'll ask me to marry him before that - I hope!).

I'm with you VSL. BF and I have been together 6.5yrs already and we're looking at rings now ... we're still young and I want to save up some more so I can have my dream WDW wedding.

Besides, my boyfriend always thinks of these things as a hassle, I figured I'd plan a little and take some of the guess work out of it for him, since that's always what kills the happy moments ... kind of like a work project.

"Exibit A is where we'll be married. See swatches for pew seatcovers. Exibit B is how much fun we'll have with the Best Man trying to kiss Minney Mouse ..."

Also, what he doesn't know won't hurt him, and it's fun for me.

I totally understand what you are going through because up until aug 6 I was not engaged BUT I was planning..lol. Don't worry beeter to over plan than under plan is my philosophy! He is probaby just waiting for the right moment!

I wouldn't worry about what everyone else thinks. My boyfriend and I are living togerther we started planning our Disney Wedding a few months ago and told our family and friends about it. We weren 't engaged yet. We just got back from Disney and he did it last Wednesday and we had our contract signing on Friday.

It's a little weird planning a wedding before getting engaged but it happens.

I was doing it as well. My reason is that I work full time and was planning to go to grad school this fall. We knew we were going to get engaged, but I wanted as much out of the way before school started. I am not able to go this fall, but that turned out to be ok, b/c between planning the wedding and working full time it is really a full life! I know it is strange, but hang in there. Sometimes, it just has to be done that way, especially if he wants to save up for the ring, and you guys are under a tight timeline. We are getting married in a little under 9 months from now.

Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!!!
My bf and I have been together for almost 4 years. He has been divorced for almost 7. He has two kids and trying to save and save while paying child support is really difficult. But he's such an awesome dad. We talk about planning the wedding all the time. We have a tentative schedule all worked out. Doesn't sound romantic, that we have a schedule, but financially he has no choice. The plan is that I should have my ring by 6/06. Sounds like a long ways away, but with all we've been through together, it's not that bad. We are eloping, as long as the kids are ok with it. I told him we could get married where ever he wants because the honeymoon is my department :rotfl2: .
We are hoping for sometime in 9/06, we have a package all picked out at the Venetian Resort in Vegas to get married, and then a week at my DVC (since he's never seen it) but I plan on surprising him w/a weekend first, at AKL concierge. Please send me pixie dust that this all works out, my bf has been through so much in his life :wizard:

Yay!! I also thought I was the only one. This thread makes me feel a lot better. BF and I have been together for 7.5 years...hopefully he will get on the ball and make things official :rotfl:

Just teasing! Here's some pixie dust that he gets on the ball :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Whew!!! I feel so much better that there are others like me. :goodvibes Dbf and I have been together 8 years on Aug 25 and we are also planning a Disney wedding. We are not engaged but he says he going to "make it official" soon. :teeth: I already have two promise rings (I lost the stone out of the first :sad1: ) so another ring isn't really necessary. I am sure it will be a few years until the actual wedding because we have to save. But I am willing to wait as long as I can get married at Disney.   Wish me luck.

Thanks for all of the replies! I feel much better knowing it's not just me! I guess I was just getting a little frustrated with waiting. Like so many of you, we've been together for quite a while, six years, and living together for four years. Part of that time was spent trying to figure out what kind of a wedding would appeal to us both, which is, of course, where Disney comes in-a plan we can both finally agree on. Our plan is to have our wedding (probably at the Swan/Dolphin) in late April or early May '06. I'm just anxious to really be able to get going with all the planning and share all of it with my family. I think he is waiting for some perfect moment to propose or trying to come up with some really exciting way to do it, but I keep trying to tell him that all I care about is that he puts some thought into it and what he wants to say when he does it.

Ooh, there are quite a few of us! :rotfl:

You've got to remember that getting married in Disney is a huge thing that takes lots of planning, so thinking about it well in advance is actually a good thing.

I'm planning my 3 girls Disney wedding, ages 2 and 7 (twins) respectively. ;) I am just so bitter about not having my wedding at disney (even though the obsession had not yet began as I had my first wdw trip after the twins turned 6). I wish with all my heart I would've known how awesome disney is back then. However I will have my disney wedding through the girls even though that's about 20 years off. My 2 year old is showing real promise! She is completely obsessed with all things disney, ( It started from the womb). Talk about unofficial. How unofficial can it get. I'm so pathetically obsessed :sad2:  :teeth: You guys are so lucky.

I would do a renewal there but my husband does not want to share disney with our family. He wants to keep it as our family vacation. He's agreed to a renewal at the venetian, my second choice and also a sentimental favorite because we honeymooned our faces off there.

My BF and i have only been "together" for 2.5 years but we've been mates for about 7. We took our first trip to WDW last september, which was also his first trip there (except when he was 2, which obviously he cant remember - i was already Disney mad) that trip made him completely disney mad too. So much so that we book another trip just 3 days after getting home!

I was casually flicking through my latest orlando brochure when i saw and ad about Disney weddings so i thought no harm in looking right? Once i logged on the the disney weddings website that was it (and i wasnt even engaged at this point!) But i neednt have worried,my BF thought it was a great idea, and my parents are disney mad too! (and my grandparents!!)

So the next day i was out shopping with my mum, and i saw "the ring" in the shop window, i kinow its not really traditional to buy your own engagement ring but it was the last one they had as it was a limited edition, and it was in my size! i did ask to hold it as i knew my BF would want to be the one to go and get it but they wouldnt hold it or me (mean or what!!) so i had to get it!

Anyway i figured id just give my BF the ring and he can propose when he wants to... well he propose that night. Not straight away tho, id given him the ring and he'd said ok and just left it so i thought he was going to wait, but then just before he left he got down on one knee!

Same here!

I even got engaged to some other guy at one point (we all make mistakes..), but towards the end of the relationship I said to my mother, 'I know I'm engaged to [ex-bf], but I'm going to marry Jay'. I just knew - so did he in fact.. my BF planned how he was going to propose to me when we were still in school (unfortunately, this means it's unlikely that he's going to do it in WDW, but I'm sure he's got something wonderful planned :goodvibes).

And I think that any engagement is romantic! Paula Radcliffe (Marathon world record holder) proposed to her (now) husband - she even bought the ring for him (not her).

My BF has asked me (not so long ago) to show him what type of rings I like, but I told him that I wanted him to choose and suprise me (he knows that I only like white gold, platinum or silver, and if he insists on a diamond, then I want a coloured one - I think that's narrowed down enough!). We've already discussed whether to go for an intimate or a custom Disney wedding - I want custom so we can do more stuff, but an intimate would be better for our (likely) party size.

See - we're all planning! :rotfl2:

Yeah i have my heart set on a custom - i have about 32 guests coming to mine - im trying to keep to a budget but its soooo not happening! I keep finding other things i want, like Mickey and Minnie at the reception etc. Oh well, im sure it will all be worth the money!

I am so glad that you guys are out there planning just like me. Today I looked at wedding dresses. The one I liked was $2000 :earseek: So I guess planning isn't such a bad thing. If you wait until they save up the money for the ring, you do not have time to spread the expenses. It's amazing how much all this costs. I wish my mom started planning and saving when I was 2 then I wouldn't be stressed out by all the stuff I want and how I am going to pay for it!!!!
