Who else is sleepless the night before going to WDW?

Well..I leave on my first trip to WDW in 4 hours. No I am not sleeping-I just finished checking everyones bags.I am the same way about the house being clean.I am a nervous wreck thinking I've forgotten something(DS9,DS7,DD6 DD1).Right now I am waiting on muffins to cook.

We leave around 2:00 am driving out so I usually lay down around 10:00 pm the night before. I might doze off but I mostly sleep in the car. Dh does the driving alone so I sleep for awhile. April ::MickeyMo

I can never sleep the night before and I always justify it to myself by saying I'll sleep on the plane. Guess what- I never sleep on the plane. Disney is one of those vacations that you need a vacation after.

I'm prone to insomnia anyways, so I have a supply of Ambien at hand. Not even that works very well on the night before Disney tho.....

I have sleepless nights at many points in the Pre-Disney Planning tho - The night I make my resort ressies,, the night I make plane ressies, the night I make my first PS. I leave a week from Friday & the sleeplessness has started...

Like another poster said, once I get there, I'm still rather sleepless as I'm so excited to be there.

Thank God for Ambien!

This always happens to me when we drive. We live in MD and like to be on the road around 5; which means I (aka Sgt. Disney) get the ball rolling with DD & DH. They are not morning people and it usually takes several attempts to get them out of bed
So anyway, I try to get to bed earlier than normal; I lay there and obsess about what i've packed; and did I do this or that. And worst of all, I worry I won't wake up in time.

I never sleep either but then again I work the night before and we usually leave when I get home at 5am. But the last time I did drive right after work it was just DD11 and I, typically one of my other daughters go and sometimes a co-worker too. So they keep me awake by chatting with me. The last time I felt so tired I had to stop at a turnpike plaza for a 30 min nap. It worked. Our next trip is in less than 2 weeks part of me wants to pack now and get it over with. LOL How bad is that?

I haven't decided how we are going to do it this trip. Driving right after work or get a few hours nap. Only bad part is when I nap first when I wake up my first thought is "awww, if I would have went ahead and driven we'd have been there by now"

I never get any sleep the night before either. I always end up falling asleep on the plane...as soon as we take off the sleep just hits me :wizard: and I can't control it. But at least after we land I'm all energized for my arrival day at the parks :dancer:

I'm the OP...and I appreciate all your comments and suggestions. A few of you mentioned taking Tylenol PM....you know, I've tried that, but I honestly think that my adrenaline is running so much that the drug doesn't work for me then. It certainly works all the other times when I take it, but not before I go or while I'm at Disney.

I also suffer from sleeplessness when I'm AT Disney. I mean, how can I sleep? I spend so much time thinking and planning, that when I'm actually THERE, it's just too much for me. I'm just too excited.

Oh well, as long as the adrenaline keeps pumping through my system, that's okay...

:cool1:

Perhaps someone has already mentioned this and I didn't catch it but I would ask your family doctor for a small prescription of Ambien. It lets you get about 7-8 hours of restful sleep and wake up feeling great. I only take 1/2 of one and it works like a charm. Only meant to be used occasionally, though. I think you could safely take it for 7 days or so.

I am having the same issues. My sleepless nights have begun. The other night I had a dream that we were at the airport. I even dreamt that we took off and were on our way to Disney. Needless to say, when DH asked me the following morning if I had a good night's sleep, the answer was no! LOL! Oh well, if this is what I have to go through to get to Disney, I would gladly accept it!

As for ways to help, for me a glass of wine before bed knocks me right out! Beer I can handle, but wine ALWAYS makes me so sleepy. Also, to help out sleeping WHILE at Disney, try going to PI every night! I bet you will SURELY sleep well then ;) Honestly, I don't really have problems sleeping while down there. I kind of put myself in a dream world anyways once we pass under "the arch". Also, I am so worn out from walking that I am able to fall fast asleep.

YAY! 11 days, 8 hours, 33 minutes, and 28 seconds!

We used to take early morning flights, but stopped for this very reason. Now we take flights that leave after noon and we like it SO MUCH better! Everyone gets a good night sleep before the trip! :flower:

Sleep, we don't need no stinking sleep! We always fly red eye and my DH is an insomniac anyway. I figure I will get plenty of sleep when I am dead so why waste the daylight! :3dglasses

On our last trip in Dec. my husband and I were working so much that I had to pack the night our trip. (2 days disney/4 day Wonder)

However I also had a project that had to be completed at work. Well I didn't finish the project until midnight, printed our SWA boarding passes, than went home and started packing.

I wasn't done until about 4:00. I got about 2 hours sleep because we had to get to BWI (an hour away) for an 10am flight.

I figured I'd sleep another 2 hours on the plane but ironically wasn't tired enough to sleep.

I never did get to sleep until our bus ride home from Downtown Disney around 11 that night......

Well I see we are all very much alike!! I can't sleep either and I too also have an early flight so we can get there ASAP!!!!

That is not even funny, I have to take a sleeping pill just to get a cople of hours, it is really bad. I mean the joy of the thought that you are going to be in the best place in the world the next A.M. WOW WOW
