Saw my first one today and I'm scared to death They are supposed to be out in plague like wrath! Ugh. I think I'll hole up in my house for 6 weeks. Anyone else have the ugly, devil like bugs yet????

CAUTION>>>>> not real size. Actually 10 times bigger and Uglier!!

No, I haven't seen any. I just wanted to let you know that the other day on the radio (a Baltimore station), people were talking about eating them!!!!! YUCK!!!!!!!!!!

Cheeringmom where do you live? We expect to see them but haven't yet.

They are gonna be here by the millions. Haven't seen any yet though, but expect to this weekend.:teeth: This will be my third time for them.:teeth:

Oh Cheeringmom, you & those silly little cicadas. Can't you just kill 'em already???:teeth:

We've got a bunch. In fact my kids are out hunting cicadas with their Granny right now. They just started finding them yesterday, and now they seem to be all over the place. I jumped over a few on the sidewalks when I went jogging this morning. Seems like the kids are finding a lot more casings than live ones, though. They're pretty cool looking, but even though I know they are harmless, it gives me the willies holding them! They have legs that cling to you, and it tickles!

We had these in Nebraska growing up. We used to collect the shed skin shells. :teeth:

Great childhood memories! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

soon...and that link to the recipes is just plain disgusting..they are ugly enough to have to deal with...how can anyone consider eating them?..YUCK!

Are they suppose to make their way west this year or something?

Kitties, doggie, chipmunks love them. If they eat too many they will get sick though. Don't you just love stepping on the shells and hearing the 'crunch'. :teeth:

They are only gonna be in certain areas. SW Ohio, Kentucky, Eastern Indy, Penn, around the DC area. Brood X is what they are calling them, and they are supposed to be a mighty bad batch this year. :teeth: They pop out of the ground every 17 years and reek havoc on the innocent. :teeth:

Yuk, they are all over the sidewalks here in D.C. and Virginia.

BLECH. I could barf right now.

Where is that poster who's friend gets vomited on all the time?? I'll head over her way....LOL.

Those things are nasty. We're anticipating them any day now.

The do not bite or attack. Except for the noise they are harmless. They do not destroy crops or plants. The males (the singers) live for about 2 weeks and the females about 6 weeks. They are the loudest insect there is.

If you get ambitious they are supposed to taste like canned asparagus (sp?)

Estimates are there are about 10 per square foot. Another is 1.5 million per acre.

Sounds like fun! :teeth:

I actually like them! I think they are cool. Oh, and for Hillbeans, I'm the poster with the friend who attracts vomit!

My 2 yr old DD heard about them on the news and was panicking, "Mommy are they really coming to NJ", "are they coming to our street and OUR yard". I had to explain to her that they are neat (yeah right) and how they only come every 17 years and next time they come she'll be 21 yrs old. Imagine if I told her they live underground. She'd never leave the house again.
