Who else hates the SAT? (kind of vent)

Im taking my first SAt in two weeks and now I am starting to freak out! I have been doing horrible on the math sections and it's weird because I am excellent in math. I think it's unfair that I might be kept from going to some good schools that match my grades because of one test.

I was reading how a low score on the test will also hurt you more then a high score can help, so unfair. And, apparently the grading system favors people who are expected to do poorly:confused: I think it is so unfair that getting into college is largly based on one test.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Ok, there's my little vent.

calm down... remember that you get a break after every other section... and if you get nervous just talk to the kids around you. the quieter the room is before the test, the more nervous you'll get.

I remember walking in my first time and everyone being dead silent... about 5 minutes later i said " So, can we talk" then everyone broke out into laughter and then we all talked to each other which really lifted the tension.

and on math, i'm the same way... you just have tto stay confident and use all the time that they give you... double check questions after your finished.

Good luck

Well I haven't taken SAT's but I would say eat something before you take them. That always calms my nerves before my standarized tests.

I would not say I am nervous just frustrating. Like I feel like I should be doing better on math and do not see why it is even important to take the test. That's what i was trying to get more at with this, I do not see why one test effects college admissions so much.

I have taken 3 ACTs and 1 SAT. :scared1:
Do not stress! Study hard, learn as much as you can. SAT is much more english and reading oriented than math.
You get a break after every section you fill out. I got a decent score and I thought the ACT was harder.

It's highly unlikely, if you get good grades in high school, that you're going to fail the test bad enough that you can't get into your college. Remember, each one you miss it deducts points. This was hard for me because I'm a total guesser and I wanted to mark things even if I didn't know what they were.

I found that when I took the SAT it was a pretty casual and relaxed place. There are other kids there who are nervous but I didn't think it was too bad at all.
Eat before you go and bring a snack as you'll get a break that you can probably eat.

I cannot express how much you do not want to stress! It's NOT that big of a deal. You'll walk out wondering why you were so scared. Do your best and you'll be fine! If you have any specific questions, I might be able to answer them.

Good luck! :goodvibes:

I've taken 2 PSATs, one last year, and one at the beginning of this year. This year I'm taking the real thing! March 12. And I'm taking the ACT on June 11. I honestly just want to get it over with. I'm not nervous, considering I've taken the PSAT already. And I haven't been doing any practice questions, which is probably the wrong thing to be doing... :rolleyes1

i hated it until my mom bribed me with a trip to disney if i did good enough to get a scholarship(which i did by 10 points) so now me and the sat have a truce:)

I took the SAT twice, and hated it both times. I did pretty well, and was able to get into my #1 school and its honors program-- the SATs weren't the only deciding factor, though. grades and our essays weighed pretty heavily, too. The SAT scores were more like a qualifier than anything. Even though the SATs were a pain, because of them I'm happy where I am for college, and was able to get scholarship money.

My only suggestion is that when you're on the test, if you try to skip a problem, make sure you actually skip it. I had my answers off for a good ten problems and it messed up my scores- not majorly, but enough to upset me. When we got my answer sheet(my mom paid extra to see it) my mom and my aunt were laughing at me...

I was in a room with a bunch of people I knew. only two kids didn't go to my school, so we were all talking before the exam and during our breaks- it really helped keep the mood calm.

my only other suggestion is get tons of sleep the night before- don't stay up cramming. a functioning brain is more important than memorizing a formula that a sleep deprived brain can't process.

oh, just so you know, gcse means 'general certificate of secondary education' :')
