So last Saturday, I had to go to our local Naval Base and say my last good byes to my uncle. We are really close so it was tough even though we have gone through this before. This is his third tour in Iraq and he is my hero for leaving his kids and wife and go defend our country!

So I was wondering who else knows someone who has or had been in Iraq or Afghanistan?

My cousin was in the Marines and was in Afghanistan for about a year in total.

It was really hard because his first day of basic training was September 11, 2001. He picked a really bad time to start serving in the military, lol.

I don't know anyone but I just wanted to give a  I'm sure that is so scary.

Awe I so know how you feel
My cousin is in Afghanistan right now defending our country.
It's really hard for me, and the rest of my family.
He drives the army tanks, which scares the crap out of me.

  for you, it will be okay.

wow! I think that is so much more scarier then what my uncle does.
He flys planes low to the ground to find bombs or people in hiding.
yikeeesss

My brother is in the Navy. He's living in Mississippi right now with his wife and kid. Before he was living in Monterey. He has been stationed in Iraq and Okinawa. He's also been on an aircraft carrier for a long time. This year he's moving to Anapolis.

It was cool cause I got to fly to Hawaii, then stay on the aircraft carrier for a week and go from Hawaii to San Diego. That was a lot of fun.

I have a bunch of family members in the military :(

My dad's two cousins; Seth and Jaime - brothers, they're a lot younger
that my dad so I am close to them, like my own 1st cousins.
They left in 2005.

My great-grandfather was, he fought in Vietnam.

My second cousin, whom I was also close to, got killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, about two years ago. He was married with two twin girls 6 years old, Karee and Kaylee and a two year old son, Gabe. And his wife was eight months pregnant with their fourth child, son named after him; Timothy. It was a heartbreaking situation but something I will never forget. Driving to the airport to watch them bring his coffin off the plane, and into the hearse. Then going back to our hometown 30 miles away. There we're people parked on the side of the roads all the way out of the town, and into three other small towns, and into our town. When we arrived in our town, people by the hundred we're standing on the side of the roads waving flags, and crying, all the way down main street and to the funeral home. It was definitely something I won't ever forget. Yellow flags everywhere. On every business door, and every tree within seeing distance. The funeral was at the first baptist church, which is the biggest church in our town. There we're people standing in the back, along the sides, and even standing outside, and then going to the cemetery, watching all his military buddies crying. It was so heartbreaking.. gives me chills just thinking about it.
