Who else has surprised the kids??

I just LOVE this idea and ran it by DH. He reminded me that while our precocious 6 yo son is DYING to go to WDW, he would probably say something like, "But I really wanted to go back to MB!!" And he is so right - I can totally see him saying that LOL Sounds fun though
We told our kids that we were picking them up early from school for a dentist appointment. When we got to the airport and revealed the surprise after the initial hooplah was over my DS said, "What about our teeth?" Kids are so funny.

We are surprising the kids in 4 days!!! It has been SO hard to keep it a secret. We aren't going to tell them anything until we wake them up early in the morning the day our flight leaves. Then, we are going to say, "Wanna go to Disney world today?"

I am HOPING they get excited, but since we have a 6:30am flight, we have to wake them at 4 am...so I am not sure what kind of reaction I will get. i know once we get there they will be psyched...we are staying at the WL...they love it there. We also have some special things planned for them while we are there, and we wont tell them about those until we have to!

At first I had to find a way to talk with them about Disney without spilling the beans...I told them we don't have the money for another trip right now (we went for 17 days last August), but that I want to plan a trip for Oct 06. They are excited about this and enjoy telling me their favorite things to do. I have been able to explain the changes to the castle to them and a few other things etc. So it hasn't been too bad. I have had to tell them I am going thru their summer clothes to see what fits and what doesn't, since we will be donating anything they have outgrown. (This is true, expcet for hand me down possibilities).

The only other thing that was tough was checking DS to see if he was tall enough (40"....HE IS!!!!) without letting DD6 become suspicious. I just told her I wanted to see if he would be tall enough in Oct....she bought it!!

I don't think we will surprise them again any time soon....to hard to keep it a secret....but we'll see how it goes this time!!

My son's 7th birthday:bday: is Saturday March 5th! He thinks we are going to Disney ::MickeyMo in June when school gets out. For his birthday, we are having a small party after his soccer game. He thinks we are going to Carowinds in Charlotte about a 5 hour drive.(we live in Wilmington, NC). We will leave around 3 pm and drive until we can't drive any more. My boyfriend insists he can drive all through the night and get us in Florida without stopping.:crazy2: I'm planning on having to stop.

Anyway, when my son starts to ask questions, we will play it off like we are lost. I'll say something to my boyfriend like you made a wrong turn and now we are in Florida?!?! He'll say something like... Well since we are in Florida we might as well go to DISNEY :earseek:

We leave in 13 days. I've been planning to surprise my son since August. We got our tickets in the mail the other day, and I've been SO good about keeping this quiet. I CAN'T WAIT TO TELL HIM!!!!!!!!!!!! He's going to flip out. :jumping1:

We've been saving $ for over a year now. Every time he gets $ he insists I take it to his savings account (I work at a bank). We watch the disney planning guide all the time, and he's counting down the days until June 5th. :rotfl2: Little does he know is he only has 13 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, it's my FIRST time going to disney too!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Posted this on a different thread yesterday...

My boys are now teenagers, and are up on exactly when the next trip to WDW is (29 days and counting), but we used to enjoy surprising them when they were younger (although we usually gave them a day's heads up).

One of the first times, my oldest son was playing in a youth football league, and we had secretly made plans to go to WDW over Thankgiving. As luck would have it, his team made the finals the weekend before Thanksgiving, and won. When we asked him what the pro players say after they win the Superbowl he said "I'm goin' to Disney World!". We said "great, we'd better get home and pack". About halfway from the field to the house he said "what are we doing this afternoon?". I said "I thought we'd already agreed that we're getting ready to go to Disney World". You couldn't pry the smile off his face when he realized it was true.

About two years later, we'd schedule to go to WDW the day after Christmas. After we opened the presents, the kids asked what the plan was for the rest of the day. At that point we handed them their stocking with the tickets inside and said "after you look at those, we're going to clean up this mess and start packing." Again it took a while to sink in, but they proceeded to bounce around the house for a couple of hours once it did.

When we went on the Disney Cruise a couple of years ago, the boys knew in advance, but didn't know we made plans to meet up in Cozumel with a family whose kids and ours are the same age and have been friends forever. We got off the boat in Cozumel and took a taxi, telling the boys we'd heard about a nice place where they could swim and snorkel. When we got to the resort, we walked to the pool and their friends (who also were clueless) were swimming around. I said "as long as we're here, maybe you could hang out with your buddies". Needless to say, they had a whole lotta fun that day and still talk about it as one great surprise they never saw coming.

I'm still such a kid when it comes to wanting to spill the beans early, though!

We surprised our 5 children with a trip to DW the first week in Feb. We told them on New Year's Day. I made a hangman game out of it. The kids had a month to wait. My 10yods said that it drove him nuts every night trying to get to sleep knowing that he was going to DW. He said next time not to tell him until just before it was time to leave. My older boys were excited, but I don't think it interuppted their sleep. :earboy2:
