Who else has seen Space Mt all lit up?

I was on it in January when it broke down. My husband pulled out the camera and took pictures. I was in the last seat of the first car and he was in the first seat of the back car. We have tons of pictures of the inside and eachother - we also have pictures of the CM pushing the car to get it moving. It was cool

PS. Someone told me that whenever something flies out of the car (re. sunglasses) the ride shuts down so that CMs can retrieve the items. I was also told that there are many cameras monitoring the ride so that they know when something falls out of the cars.

I'm not so sure about that.

My dad and I rode Space Mountain way back in the 1984. He had put his prescription glasses in his front shirt pocket, and yes, they flew out. The ride did NOT shut down (can you imagine how often they would have to do this every day if this were the case?). We were told to check at the Lost and Found at City Hall, where we filled out some paperwork describing the lost item and our address.

Dad thought that was the last he'd ever see of his glasses, but lo and behold, about a week after we got back home, Disney found and sent his glasses back to him via US Mail.

He's been impressed with that Disney customer service ever since . . .

We just returned from WDW and got to see Space Mt. all lit up. We finished riding Space Mt. (in the dark), walked off and got right on Tomorrowland Transit Authority and when it went thru Space Mt. the lights were on. Way cool!!!!!! :cool1:

I did notice while we were waiting in line to ride Space Mt. (right before it broke down) the "stars" on the ceiling - they didn't have the choc. chip cookies flying by. We thought maybe they changed it since our last trip. But a couple of days later we were in MK again and rode Space Mt. and this time the cookies were there, and all was right with the world.....

Saw it all lit up from TTA, too. I think it was havinig problems. It was very unmagical! No wonder it's in the dark!!
:)

I have experienced Space Mountain with the lights on; the Disney Youth Education series has a program entitled "Disney's World of Physics", which school groups can experience while on a field trip to WDW. First, the kids ride Space Mountain with the lights off. Then they guess the speed, and after learning the actual speed of the ride (much slower than they guess!), they ride again with the lights on. What a difference without the visuals and darkness!

We were in MK last monday night for EMH and decided to ride the TTA. Well when it went thru Space Mt. the ride was all lit up! I guess they were having problems and had to close it for a while, but seeing how big SM really is was amazing!
It's one of the few coasters I ride, and that was because it was dark and I couldnt see what was ahead (that and RNR).

Has anyone else seen SM with the lights on?

We were there on that same EMH night & saw Space Mt. all lit up from the TTA. We were just hoping that they would fix it quickly as not to cause longer lines at the other rides.

Yes, we've seen it Space Mt in the light several times. A few of the times were because Space mt was closed for rehab, but TTA wasn't. And twice when Space MT broke down.

2 years ago, we were riding it and for some reason the ride stopped and all the lights came on! We sat there like that for about 20 minutes, plenty of time to check it out. Pretty wierd. Kind of ruined the magic, though, lol.

Our most recent trip (6/15-24) we did see Space Mountain lit up from TTA (yikes!) and also, my DH & DD11 were on RNR when it broke down and they had to be escorted off the ride - they still shudder when they remember that! :scared1: But they did ride it later that day!!!

We had just gotten off of it when the lights went on. They thought there was a problem/injury, but it was just a miscommunication between CM's. Something to do with a seat belt not working, so they sent one out half empty and then other CM's were watching a little TV and saw half the thing empty and shut it down thinking someone fell out. That's what we were told anyway. It was really cool to see it all lit up! It took a little of the mystery away, but I still enjoyed seeing it.

I got to ride it with the lights on...not planned of course. It was just a couple of weeks ago...on June 17. Seems like it had been shut down for most of the day, we finally caught it when it was running. While we were going up the hill...I noticed that a train was stopped on the track going up to start the ride. I was thinking that it was odd...well...just as our train got to the top...the lights came on, but we kept going. :earseek: My immediate thought was that something is wrong since the lights came on...but we kept going. Our ride was fine, but weird with the lights on. It just looks all gray...almost like a warehouse. :cool1:

Well ummm I have been "on" Space Mountain with the lights on ;) Was quiet interesting.

I have never seen the WDW Space Mountain with the lights on, but I have seen the Disneyland Space Mountain with the lights on. We were riding along and suddenly the ride stops...pitch black, people are yelling, suddenly the lights turn on....WHOA :earseek: how crazy! It looks like a "kiddie" coaster. Well, they told us to stay seated and we had to be escorted out by CM's. We were up high, so we had to walk this narrow plank. This happened right before they closed it down to update it for the Happiest Celebration on Earth.
Anyway, we got free passes to ride it later. I will never look at it the same way ever again.

We too were riding the TTA when we first saw it with the lights on many years ago. On our last trip we were about to board when there was some type of problem and the lights came on again. It was the first time my DH and DD had seen them on and they loved seeing it.

I said to my DH last month while waiting to get on the ride...."I would love to see what it looks like in here with the lights on!" :teeth:

I too thought it looked like a mass of twisted steel.

I would love to do the "World of Physics" tour and ride with the lights on, but I would probably keep my eyes closed. :goodvibes

There are some photos and video of Space Mountain with the lights on in the forums and in the downloads section of DisneyWorldTrivia.com. Enjoy!
