Who else has had the H1N1 vaccine? - update post 92 looks like my DD has the Flu.

.... I just don't understand how the immunization is being distributed in such a manner that some areas have so much and others cannot get it.
....that is frustrating....seems some area really arent getting much at all.:guilty:

Our county reported getting 1600 doses, we have just under 1 million people in our county....so you can see where the frustration is coming. The highest risk patients cannot even access it. Gotta love NY state.....god only knows where their doses went. As of today I heard that 1 pediatric office in our area received several dozen injections. We were told we were receiving 100 injections this past Monday, then told no "MAYBE" next Monday.

We were also told we should only expect 100 doses for pregnant women and children under 3 for the foreseeable future. We have almost 1800 patients that fall into that category.

I'm just curious for the adults that got it....are you all health care workers?

We've had constant correspondence that we are NOT to give it to adults unless they are 1.) pregnant 2.) a health care worker 3.) the primary caretaker of an infant under 6 months.

The reasoning behind this was so that there was enough to immunize children (the hardest hit population first), and then adults that were in the constant exposure to it.

I'm glad people are able to access it, but I'm a little frustrated that some areas cannot get any doses for the priority populations while other areas seem to have enough they don't have to follow the protocol.

I'm a healthcare worker. We have almost 100 employee's, and only about 10 were elg. to get the mist. We CANNOT get the shot in stock, yet we are seeing dozens of positive flu patients daily. This is really frustrating.

We have had 1 shipment of the mist, it's holding out but I think that is mostly because we have a high asthma population who were not eligible to get it.

We've had several young children have to leave our office by ambulance this week due to H1N1, it is very upsetting. I just don't understand how the immunization is being distributed in such a manner that some areas have so much and others cannot get it.

I'm in Tn (Knox Co specifically)...and I'm not a health care worker. Here is how it was done here.

Flu mist was first to get here. No restrictions, since you have to be a healthy 2-49 yr old to get it. I got the mist, with only about a 1 hr wait (and DS2 got his at the same time). There is still some mist available here.

Shots got here two weeks later. Only high risk, babies 6mo-2y, pregnant women, etc. Health care workers were actually vaccinated a few weeks before the mist was available to the general public.

LuvOrlando, I am SO GLAD you and your kids got the shot. I know you are relieved. As far as it being too late, my kids and I got the shot last Monday (10 days ago). We were exposed to someone with the flu this past Saturday. My son came home from school early yesterday with congestion, sore throat, and a low grade fever, but he is completely fever free and feels fine today (I am keeping a close eye on him to make sure his fever doesn't return, but he has been on Augmentin for the past 20 days, so that makes me feel somewhat assured that he won't have a secondary infection). I had a minor asthma flare up yesterday, but I am also fine. I know I don't know this was the flu for sure, but if it was, I believe the vaccine helped us, even though my son is under 10 and still needs a second dose.

Again, I know I can't say for sure that this was the flu or that the vaccine helped, but I really believe it did. I hope your kids will make it through the next 7-10 days with no problems!

As for the person asking about adults, I took my kids in for the shot, and I got one too. I am asthmatic. In our county, they advertised the shots for kids four and under, pregnant women, and caregivers of infants under six months, but they will not turn away someone who brings in those high risk people, especially if they are high risk themselves and are caregivers of at-risk children.

kilee-here, for the shot (can't speak for the mist) you had to be pregnant (me), 6mos-24, 25-49 with a health condition (I have mild asthma), caring for an infant, or a health care provider. They didn't ask for proof, although I took it. We got 3500 mists, with 500 reserved for health care providers, and 3500 injections, 500 reserved for health care providers. That's for a county of somewhere around 870,000. It wasn't super easy to get, but I kept my eyes on the news, got to the distribution site almost an hour before official opening, and was #28 in line. They ran out in about 4 hours.

LuvOrlando, I was told that there should be 4 weeks between shots, not two (this is what is on the CDC website as well). Maybe that will allow more time for info about asthmatics. My kids have to have a second round no matter what because they are both under 10, but since I have asthma, I would love to have more info on this.

DH, both DD's, & myself got vaccinated 9 days ago. All of us got the shot except for youngest DD, who got the mist (didn't matter, she still screamed like a banshee). So far, no side effects. Oldest DD was tired the next few days, but that's all I've noticed.

We managed to get them at an urgent care clinic the next town over. We are all in the high risk groups, but we were not asked when we got the shots. This clinic was not restricting who could get the shots. Our town did do a clinic today, but only for high risk groups.

I'm just curious for the adults that got it....are you all health care workers?

Yes. I am an RN in an asthma clinic. We have been seeing many cases of flu or flu-like illness in our office, and several of my coworkers have indeed been diagnosed with the flu. It is not good for our asthma patients to be exposed to us if we might have it unknowingly.

Our county reported getting 1600 doses, we have just under 1 million people in our county....so you can see where the frustration is coming. The highest risk patients cannot even access it. Gotta love NY state.....god only knows where their doses went..

Well I can tell you they don't seem to be in "our neck of the woods" - eastern upstate NY..:headache:

I would hate to be in your position - having to deal with anxious patients day in and day out..

FYI, DH and I also have Asthma. Not uncontrollable to the same degree as my DS so I don't focus on us conversationally but we are also in danger. No-one in my home was a candidate for the Mist for this reason. We were very fortunate to have an opportunity to get the killed virus shot.

To those of you unable to get the vaccine, lets just hope that enough people are getting it spread throughout the population to create some herd immunity which will buffer the outbreak. If you couple the number of people who are immune now due to previous infection with the number getting inoculated right now we may have enough of a barrier to protect a good portion of our population until the vaccine can get to the rest of us. Sure, its not an ideal situation but there is probably a reason behind the spiderweb-like distribution pattern and I would imagine this is it.

I'm patiently waiting for the peds office to call and let me know its in. They said they should have it by the end of this week, the beginning of next :goodvibes

Last week, our county had the free seasonal flu shots, and DS, DH, and I were able to get them before they ran out. They cancelled all other clinics the day after DS got his.

DS got the H1N1 yesterday at our county clinic for kids 5-18 with underlying medical conditions. They asked what the medical problem was, but asked for no proof, nor did they write down what you said. Friday they are having a pregnant women shot clinic, but none are scheduled for anyone else. No CVS or Walgreens have any either.

DS said this morning his arm is fine, no reaction. I'm hoping that since he had it, at least he won't bring the flu home from HS. DH and I are both asthmatics so I really don't want to get the flu.

So this morning I checked everyone for a fever and everyone is perfectly healthy. Our arms don't even ache which is good because this is our most common side effect. So far so good but I still gave everyone a Motrin, including myself, just in case, same as I do with every vaccination. I usually give a Motrin 1 hour before the vaccination itself and continue for 24 hours, all the while checking for fevers every 8 hours when the dose has worn off.

My kids age 8 and 2 got their first dose 9 days ago. No side effects!!
Does anyone know how good that first dose works?? Do you need both to be immuned? This should help somewhat, right??
They are supposed to go back Nov. 23 for their 2nd dose. I saw some one say they got theirs 3 weeks apart...I wonder if I could mive up my kids appt??

I was so hoping to get it before my convention in Vegas next week, but it's not around here yet! Just read Vegas has 854 cases last week. GREAT.

So with all the talk about the vaccine I thought I would start a thread from people who have actually had it already to see what the effects are, good and bad.

Today at 2:30 myself, a mild Asthmatic, my DH and my 2 severely Asthmatic children, DS11 & DD10 got the H1N1vccine. I have to be honest, I can't help but wonder if it's too late anyway since it takes 2 weeks for immunity to set and the Flu is tearing through the region. Still, we did it, and I am hopeful. More troublesome for us is the fact that both of my kids are at the tail end of a flare-up so they both have been taking moderate levels of steroids for a while now. DS is on 2 ampules of .5 Pulmicort 2 times a day with Duoneb 2 times a day and DD has been on 4 puffs of Flovent 2 times a day with 2 puffs of Albuterol a day. I know there is research on whether or not Asthmatics need another dose of the vaccine to be safe but that no-one is sure just yet. I also know that second dose needs to be spaced 2 weeks behind the first. I can only pray that this is sorted out in the next 2 weeks but no matter what we're still going to be careful.

As for us, every one of us has been getting Seasonal Flu vaccines since my DD was born premature in 1999. WE all had the seasonal shots 2 weeks ago without incident. Today we all did take Motrin before the shot, just like we always do. So far all of us are perfectly fine.

I'll keep reporting back and would like to encourage other people to do the same to help other people relax their fears about the vaccine's safety.

I am glad you were able to find the H1N1 vaccine for you and your family, I know you were concerned about the availibility.:thumbsup2

Both my DH and I were able to get the mist form this past Tuesday. My DH had no effects from the mist but I do feel achy (bones and muscles) and a little nauseaus.

DH and I would like to get the shot - DH is in the risk category - Dr says I should get for DH. I have not been able to locate anywhere to get yet...

My son and I got the mist on the 9th. He has to get one more dose and I'm hoping there is some available when that time comes. We are still waiting for the shot for my daughter.
