I am not sure why you would be holding your tongue. There was certainly nothing that I would ever wanted a child to watch on MTV over the years. Now my youngest is 17. At this point I am not censoring what they watch but have made a decision about what programming I want in OUR house. DH and I are not listening to MTV and that's that. It has been locked out for YEARS and I have not seen a reason to unlock it. Put some ice on your tongue.

I never in my life understood why people thought/think MTV is SO bad. The way people talk around here, makes it seem like my parent's did everything wrong when raising my 3 siblings and I. We weren't banned from watching MTV or anything like that.

I think the Sweet 16 show is hilarious. It's amazing how people with money live. G-d bless them. If they have the money, why shouldn't they spend it? It's apparent that these children will have money for a considerable time now.

If anyone had bothered to watch the first episode, the one with the two girls in La Jolla, they would have noted that the two girls charged their guests $10 to get in, with that money going to a breast cancer charity. They raised something like $20,000. Spoiled brats? Yeah, right.

That doesn't mean she HAS to permit it in her own house. Just because kids will eventually see/or do something does that mean we should just except these things in our home? As Dawn stated, she had younger children - and yes...MTV is inappropriate for young kids.

I think this show is entertaining as heck. I do. I think that if you approach it the right way, it can be an awesome opportunity to broach the topic of showy wealth/ostentation/"keeping up with the Joneses" with your kids. Honestly, if your teenager is idiot enough to watch "My Super Sweet 16" and decide that he or she deserves an equally lavish party - there are deeper issues. It's sort of like "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" for the teen set.

I agree! I watch this show with my 14 year old daughter and we laugh like heck. She knows those kids aren't living in the real world, and she knows that they are spoiled brats, and that the parents are afraid to say no to them. I find the show hilarious and so does my daughter.

have to say, as a freshman this year, I totally agree. Those kids do make good entertainment before you have to take care of them.


BUT back to the original idea of the tread...Ive seen EVERY episode of this show . But now that I have I can't stand the re-runs. The girls were completely rediculuos and the boy who had to bribe people to come to his party amazed me. I also couldn't figure out why natalie was living in poverty when her dad was living it up in CA; then she said something about her soon-to-be step mom having a lot to do with bringing her out there

Funny...most of the people I know raised their kids this way (including my own parents and my DH parents) and those kinds of things never happened. Family value's go a long way for some people. I'm glad that me, my family and most of my friends belong to such an elite club.

Whoa...that's very uncalled for. When it comes to raising children I don't care what kind of degree you have or just how much money you have - thats NOT what makes a good parent.

I must be a complete idiot in your eyes - I got married at the age of 18 - had my first child at 20 and have been happily married for 16 1/2 years. My mother in law had no degree and had her first of 8 children at the age of 19...I'm inclined to think that you have no more common sense than either one of us or Mrs. Kreamer.
