I am just wondering how crazy it will be in Vancouver, as there's the firework show on 8/1/15 and the pride parade on 8/2/15. We will be staying at Hyatt from 8/1/15 and will arrive in Seattle on 8/1/15 and spend a few hours at Pikes Place, then head to Vancouver and have dinner there and perhaps, watch the fireworks show. On the morning of 8/2/15, we will be heading to Capilano Suspension Bridge, then walk around Stanley Park, do the Fly Over Canada and at night, head to the Richmond Night Market.

Getting very excited as this will be our first Disney Cruise.

I went that time on my Alaska cruise with the fireworks and festival on, it didnt kick in until 6pm and didn't affect us in any way.

Post 6pm roads were closed and full of people.Capilano Suspension Bridge is very good, so is Grouse mountain and fly over canada a great soaring style ride.

We arrive in Seattle at 8:45am. 3 hours at Pike's Place should be enough and then hopefully, we can cross the border before 6pm and head to Canada Place to return the rental.

We are on the same cruise. Arriving in Vancouver late on the 31st. Looking forward to a great weekend! I know hat the parade on Sunday goes very close to the Hyatt so we plan to be out of the area by mid morning. We are going to the Taylor Swift concert Saturday night but hope to see some fireworks on the walk back to the hotel.

You are looking at serious punishment....
  • Saturday 6pm to midnight will be gridlock with the fireworks and the Swiftee concert
  • Sunday 10 to 7pm will be gridlock with Pride parade and festivities. I hear Hop On tours are cancelled for the day. Your Capilano shuttle will be in that congestion. I hope your hotel is not on Robson.
  • should I mention it's a Canadian Long weekend?

Wow, didn't know it would be that crazy that weekend. We are staying at Hyatt and I know the shuttle goes there right after Canada Place. We just have to wing it.

  • I would give the Cap shuttle call the day before to confirm parade routing and shuttle availability.
  • Otherwise, take the subway to the Waterfront station, Seabus ferry to the North Shore and then Grouse Mountain bus to get there.
  • Third option is a cab if you are up before 9am.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am hoping that if we leave early enough (9am) to take the shuttle to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, it would still be ok but I guess we won't know until we get there in a couple of weeks.

Well, at least we will be entertained during our time in Vancouver before our cruise.

We will be in the same boat next year. Would this day be a good/bad day for Stanley park? We will be arriving via train in the late morning (hoping to stay at the pan pacific) and were either going to do Stanley park or Capilano.

If you are on an August 1st 2016 sailing.... arriving in Vancouver on July 31st would be a bad idea when the Pride parade is running at noon. You will be fighting congestion.

Not much of a choice.
Any chance of arriving a few days earlier to enjoy the city and not the congestion? Here's a crazy idea....

Stay at a North Vancouver hotel.
  • convenient access to Capilano and Grouse mountain attractions
  • taxi has easy access to North Vancouver by using the Ironworker's bridge outside of core
  • cab into the cruise terminal the next day
What do other's think? Otherwise... let's wait a few weeks on the forum if others can report their experiences getting from Amtrak to downtown hotel.

Another option is the subway to your downtown hotel... but it depends on which hotel and I expect the trains will be busy... making it difficult with luggage.

Unfortunately, we are confined a bit by budget and it seems that we will have a day on the other end of the cruise because of the inconvenient flight times to LA (we are adding on Disneyland for two days after and Seattke is before, with vancouver on either end. Since we are flying from the East Coast we are trying to hit a bunch if things. The cruise was not DHs choice at all. In any event, we will make the best of it. Are we thinking it would be impossible to get a cab from the train station to the Pan Pacific? (I'm pretty set on staying there.)

Anyone knows what's the best way to go from Capilano Suspension Bridge to the Aquarium at Stanley Park, then back to Canada Place?
