Since there was some "male bashing" going on on another thread about who does the trip planning in the household and whether or not men are more clueless than women when it comes to DVC, I thought it would be interesting to create a poll and survey the DIS.

So, who does most of the trip planning in your house?

I do, same as Rob... On a whim I just asked my wife if she wanted to go take the tour. After we went thru the presentation, saw the rooms, asked questions figured out how much those rooms would normally be, and realized that (in normal times) we could stay in a 1br for about the same as a mod, she asked me why I hadnt signed us up for it until now! :lmao: She likes to go, but she doesnt want to plan or do any of that.

I beg my wife to just call to add one day to a reservation and she refused. Her response was "It is too complicated."
I am man, watch me plan.

IT would be me the wifey that does all that. If i leave it up to DH, he would plan long weekend at BMX races and considers that vacations. NOT!! fun but not my idea of vacation and he is getting really bad about not wanting to go anywhere so this forces him to take a break from work.

I do all of the leg work for timeframe, location, size of the room, travel plans, dining. Then my wife says yes or no to each. She is the boss.

I do everything pretty much. My dh has very little input into our trips. He always tells "whatever is fine with me". He has never called MS and I don't think he would know exactly what he would say if he did. :rotfl2: He is the type that says "Tell what days I need to take off from work". He is not picky about where we stay or eat or any of that. Oh and let me add.....he has no clue whas most of the DIS coded talk is either. He has seen my emails from Dis friends or DVC/Dis friends and he thinks we speak a different language. LOL

I consult with my wife to determine when and where we want to go but then I run with everything. This includes calling Member Services for room and Dining Reservation and booking flights. I also take care of everything when it comes to managing our DVC Membership. I keep her informed with everything but she much prefers that I handle everything.

I took this approach for our wedding. I told DW "tell me where and when to show up." But Disney and trips are all me. :)

I would have guessed I would be in the minority, maybe it will change. I enjoy booking trips from Maine to Florida but my DW only request is to always stay at our home resort. Which is fine by me!

That would be me....the wife. That's okay though ALL the planning keeps me happy between vacations!!!!!! The whole family is in on it for ideas and opinions on resort, dining and fun. Then I do all the planning , calls and ADR's. Then we all go over it. The best part of doing all the legwork is that when we are on vacation and everthing is going smoothly (without any coaxing) my hubby says (on video) do you see how great this vacation is.....thank your mother...it wouldn't be this fun if it wasn't for her! :cloud9: He makes me feel like a million bucks!:hug:

I do 90% of the planning though Dizny Dad is right there along with me. As empty nestors, we decide where and when we want to go. I make all contact wth MS. Once reservations are made, we decide about any dining reservations that are needed for the trip and I make those, too.

If I had listened to him 3 days ago, it would have saved me almost $100. on our flights for our May trip. Our return flight went from $85. to $130. overnight - literally.

Once and as plans are being finalized, DH puts all info into a spread sheet that we print and take with us. I have no idea how to use an Excel spread sheet :confused3 Definitely 100% his job.

More options may be needed ...
  • Another family member (kids, parents, sibling, etc.)
  • An outside party (paid consultant? neighbor, friend, online forum acquaintance)
  • Don't know (we simply haven't yet figured it out ... too new to the roles)
  • Other (there is always an other??)

I appreciate what you're saying, but what I was trying to get at is the sex of the person booking the trips. In the post that I was referring to, there was a post staying that men are generally clueless about DVC and trip planning. The reason for this poll was to attempt to prove my theory that the distribution would be about even and that one sex does not have the upper hand on trip planning and DVC. :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 YEP my dh is the exact same way. He has also used that same line. :rotfl:

Mostly me, but my wife has planned a few surprise trips over the years.

I see my initial thread response ruffled many a "male" feather!

I longed for it, I saved for it and I purchased it! Now, I alone, plan, stretch, borrow, bank and organize our Disney vacations. Father and Son's contribution, "Where, When and what do we need to pack".
