Here in Australia, we... *cough cough*... hardly ever tip!

Most people leave a nice tip for waiters / waitresses, and maybe to cab drivers if they're nice, but it's really just not the done thing in other situations. :confused3

I've been reading various threads here, where people say they leave tips for the cleaners who clean their room, and other places where Aussies would never think to tip! Eeek!

I don't want to be totally out of it when it comes to tipping in Disney World (and the US, in general, actually!), so I wonder if someone can make a little list of people who definitely need tips, and people who sometimes get tips if they're good!?

Thankyou!!! :Pinkbounc

Restaurant servers: 15%-20%.
Buffet servers: 10%-15%.
Taxi drivers: 15%.
Bell staff: $1-$2 per bag.
Valets: $2 when you retreive you automobile.

Housekeepers at Disney are actually non-tipped personnel. Tip them if you wish, but that's not necessary.

It is my experience that Housekeeping Always should be tipped. They work very hard, are given strict time measuremens for cleaning your room, and make very little $.

The difference is you generally don't see them, but Someone cleaned the room

P.S. Thanks for asking !

$5 per day for housekeeping
20% for table service meals
$1 or2 each way for valet ($5 if they have to walk in the rain to or from my car, Im silly like that) :teacher:

We left a tip for our housekeeper on the second day at the Yacht Club, with a note asking for extra towels. We ended up with 4 extra towels, and she did the washclothes in a really cute animal shape with stickers for eyes. It was hilarious! Silly me forgot to get a picture, though.

Is $5/day for houskeeping the normal tip, or do some tip more/less?

...........and if you use any of the salon services (haircut, massage, manicure, pedicure) or if any of the men in your party get a haircut at a barber shop...I always tip those folks 15-20% also!

Since I knew we would be there 5 days, I tipped a $20 bill. I left another smaller tip (I think $10) on the last day, as we left, with a thank you note. Housekeeping took great care of us while we were there.

I'm planning on tipping $3 a day for Mousekeeping. I also printed off cute Mousekeeping envelopes on themouseforless.com click here!

My DH is a firm believer in tipping housekeeping, but he thought I was nuts about the envelopes. I think I was looking for something else disneyish to do!! ;)

You know... we never heard of this before I read these boards years ago... now we do tip! We tip what we can and I usually always leave a goodie bag of some sort every day with a thank you note! You know it can be a different person each day! :goodvibes

What about concierge? Do you tip in the lounge? Help!

Your welcome. I heard about it on these boards one day. I took a standard size envelope and printed the pictures on them. :cheer2:

Valet, Resteraunt servers (including buffet servers), We never use bell services so haven't needed to tip them, mousekeeping.

On tipping housekeeping...alot of times, your housekeeper changes, or may be off. Someone my take care of you all week, then be off, and her backup gets a 20.00 tip. My suggestion is to use the disney envelopes, and leave a dollar per person per day. That way, if it's the same person, she gets what she deserves, and if it isn't, then everyone is covered fairly.

That's a good point. If you do decide to tip housekeepers, keep in mind that the housekeeper who cleaned your room before you checked-in may not be the same one cleaning your room the next day. You chould probably find the housekeeper in the hall and hand her the gratuity for her service preparing the room for you occupancy.

I have always read that the customary amount for housekeeping is $3.00 a day per person. That adds up pretty quickly though. I am not sure how many adhere to it. :confused3 I've also read that it's better to tip daily as housekeeping staff changes frequently.
