I am originally from VT and my dad still lives there. I visit frequently and plan to eventually move back there. Like any state there are pros & cons. Cold & snowy, yes, but it doesn't seem any worse than other northern states. And the towns seem to be able to deal with the snow quite efficiently. Practice I guess. I usually can tell when I reach the border just by the condition of the roads in the winter. Education is supported by a state program of balance, ie: more affluent areas contribute to poorer areas through the tax structure. Lots of controversy especially from the affluent towns, but it isn't all bad. Jobs are funny. Not a lot of industry, service and retail are more likely to be had. Pay scales are somewhat low, at least judged by the scale where I live now. But, I think the cost of living is lower too. I know groceries & electric are lower where my dad lives. Real estate taxes are high, but the price of homes is lower. Anyway, you can PM me if you want any more specifics. Glad to help if I can.
