In PA, all bottled liquor is sold by the state, specifically the PA Liquor Control Board. A terribly archaic system, IMO. No competetion creates higher prices than surrounding states. And, a very limited selection.

Is it like that anywhere else?

I think any one can as long as they have a permit

in california anyone with a liquor lic. can sell-and it's everywhere. in fact when toysrus downsized and sold off a bunch of blds. years ago "boozerus" wherehouse stores opened up in their place :goodvibes

Yeah, it's funny. Here in DE you'll find a liquor store in every shopping plaza, pratically every 10 feet. Cross the line into PA and they are really hard to find!

Virginia sells bottled liquor in ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) stores run by the state.

In Indiana it is anybody with a license. I know there are quite a few states that only sell it through state run stores though.

NY - anyone who's got a license. VA- ABC stores only. (I consider myself a resident of both)

VA is better for buying alcohol... ABC stores seem to be like gas stations around where we live! :rotfl:

I live in Florida and booze isn't hard to find here. There are liquor stores darn near everywhere.

We went to Maine a few summers ago and I noticed a state liquor store there. I think I remember being told that you can only buy liquor from the state store up in Maine, but I might be mistaken. I had never heard of booze control before that!

RI only allows alcohol to be sold in liquor stores. They just recently allowed for the liquor stores to sell on Sundays. I was recently in Stoughton, MA where the nearest Costco is and they sell wine wholesale right in the store. I was too excited! :cool1: Growing up CA, I was use to buying alcohol anywhere, as long as it was before 2am.

In Virginia, it is sold and managed by the state. You can only buy liquor in ABC stores.

When I lived in Maryland and D.C., there were liquor stores. Yep, the prices were better but, unfortunately, the liquor stores and the surrounding areas were always "seedy". Since I am not a consumer of liquor, I kind of prefer the ABC stores because they don't seem to have the "element" that the liquor stores have.

"Hard" liquor is only sold in liquor stores; beer and wine are in grocery, drugstores, convenience stores, Wal-Mart type stores, along with wine stores and liquor stores. When we first moved here, the beer/wine section would be covered on Sunday, but not anymore.

In Toronto, we had to go to the beer store to buy beer, and a liquor store to buy wine and spirits. (This was almost 25 years ago.)

Beer and wine can be sold in the grocery stores and places like 7/11, but liquor is sold in "ABC" or "state stores."

Oops, I see TDC Nala beat me to the punch!

We can get it anywhere with a license. SuperTarget, gas stations, grocery stores, drugstores, liquor stores, etc. Im sure there are other places but since dh and i dont typically drink anymore thats all I can think of.

This may be a dumb question, but those of you in the states that regulate it so strictly, can you get a drink at restaurants and stuff?

In MA there are no 'state stores'. You can buy anything at the liquor store, they're called package :confused3 stores (the packie) here. Convenience stores can sell beer and wine. I spent a lot of time in PA when I was younger. The bottle shop always cracked me up. You could only buy about two six packs at a time, but you could do it over and over.

Hard liquor is only sold in state stores in Ohio as well. You can buy watered down versions at the grocery store. And Ohio also has established state minimum prices on beer.

It depends on the area in NC. While there are ABC stores in every county, some cities are 'dry', making it illegal for restaurants in the city limits to sell drinks. I know a town near here recently had a vote on 'liquor by the drink', basically meaning they were voting on whether or not restaurants would be allowed to sell drinks.

Kansas has some pretty peculiar liquor laws. We have liquor stores that sell everything (but must be closed on Sundays). You can buy beer and wine coolers at grocery and convenience stores BUT...you're gonna laugh....the beer sold in these stores is reduced alcohol content(and you can't get it on Sunday). Bars and restaurants sell everything, even on Sunday. :confused3
