Who can sell LIQUOR in your state?

I don't see that anyone has weighed in with NH...not only does our state regulate the sale of "hard" alcohol, you can only buy it in a state run liquor store....but the State thought the best place for said liquor stores???

At highway rest stops.

I discovered that about NH as we were headed for Maine. Landed in Manchester and wanted to get provisions for the week. A little bottle of vodka was all I wanted, little bitty. After the second convenience store had only beer and wine coolers I asked a guy in construction worker garb where to get hard liquor. He lauged and said Massachusetts.

He offered directions, but it was growing dark and it sounded like quite a journey, so I declined. Made it to Maine (Bar Harbor) and found what I recognized as a liquor store downtown.

Here in Missouri we used to have some Sunday and time of day restrictions, but those have been falling away bit by bit. I know the pain of the underaged cashier. They have to be 18 to ring it. Not a problem at Wal-Mart, but at some grocers everything can come to a halt while they hunt for someone old enough to vote. When shopping with friends on a busy day it can be a game to guess which ones are "legal". They're all soooo young these days. :rolleyes1

I'm in PA too and I HATE our laws!!!! Hate I tell ya! lol

I seen someone mention that you can buy beer in restaurants here, but that's only true if that particular restaurant has a license. I don't know how the rest of the state is, but in our area, many of the smaller towns aren't even allowed to apply for licenses because they're considered "DRY" areas.

I once watched a program (wasn't really paying a lot of attention, was prolly on the computer at the same time LOL) and someone was on talking about our laws. I do believe they said that in PA, we're not even allowed to order wine from say CA or any other area for that matter and have it shipped to our homes. Everything must go thru the state and the state alone decides what's sold here.

A lot of states have laws about shipping alcohol to/from the state. I belong to a wine club which ships California wine, however it is actually shipped from within Florida, and the club can't ship to anyone outside of Florida.

But the best part of this: the liquor stores in towns are not open on Sundays, but the big ones on the highways are open on the weekends to catch all of the tourists. Don't drink and drive, but stop in and stock up :)

Well, that's good to know, but the problem I have with it is, in PA, they don't like to import wines from anywhere else. They'd rather only sell wine that's made here.

I'm sure there are certain wines brought in from other areas, but I think it's sad that we can't get anything we want if the state hasn't approved it. Maybe that's across the board in all 50 states, but I still don't like it.
