Is it costly? Do you find it beneficial? What do you use yours for?
Ours is having an open house in June and Im thinking of giving it a try.

I do...and love it. I have a family membership so I can use the Child Development for my DS and DD when I work out. Of course the prices are going to run differant where you live but I pay $83.00 a month. It was alot cheaper for a single membership. I go Monday-Friday and do a variety of things, weight circuit, cardio machines, yoga class, muscle toning class, I have tried a cardio dance class, spinning and am trying to work up the nerve to try kickboxing class. We have 2 pools, one indoor and one outdoor, so if it's nice out I could relax by the pool. They just redid our locker rooms and we have a steam room and a sauna. It is the best investment I have made. I am not the type to work out at home, I am just not motivated enough to do it. And at first I was scared to go to the Y, but it's so differant then say a commercial gym. Everyone there is so willing to help you get healthy and in shape, they are not there to judge you in any way. What I love is the variety of things there to do. The thing that I listed, are even half of what is there. I can try the classes and if I don't like them, no money wasted, I just try the next one on the list, and keep going until I find what is right for me. Another thing that I liked is you can cancel anytime, no 3 year contract.

It wouldn't hurt to go to the open house and see what they have to offer, they don't pressure you to sign up for anything. They will just give you a tour, tell you about the differant programs and such....what do you have to lose?

DH signed us up last summer. We used it 2 or 3 times from June to Sept. Then from Sept to April the boys took (& are still taking) swimming lessons. We did take advantage of the early registration & would not have gotten our desired classes most of the time without that benefit. Then 2 weeks ago, I made an appt for someone to show me how to use the equip in the weight room. I am hooked. I have been doing strength training for the past two weeks. In only 2 workouts I felt stronger & more confidient. I am planning to do things I never would have done before - like go Kayaking at Hilton Head this summer. (I have never had any upper body strength until now).
I am much more confidient now. In fact, I am working up to some of their classes - I was always afraid I would embarass myself with my lack of phsycial ability. I have never been cooridinated - but the strength training is helping in that area too.

I just joined last week. My DD has been a program member for swimming lessons. They sent us a coupon waiving the joiner's fee. I pay 65 a month, no contract. I am going 5x week, and doing a combo of weight training and cardio. We have gone to open swim, and DD loves the child watch. When summer session starts, I plan to do a yoga or kick boxing classes.

I belong to my local YMCA here in Madison. I think it's about $45 per month for a family membership. Most classes are an additional $20-$40 per 8 weeks, although many of the fitness classes are free. My 4 year old DD takes ballet and swimming lessons (she's a FISH) and I take Pilates. I volunteer in the nursury 1 1/2 hours per week in exchange for an single adult membership which will include my DD until she is 5. I'll have to work an extra 45 minutes per week to cover my DD once she turns 5, but it's still a bargain.
