Hi everyone I have another question I thought you all could help me with :teeth: .....My dh2b and I took a look around the Gf convention center a couple weeks ago and i fell in love w/ the whitehall room and patio. I love :lovestruc the interesting architecture (I am an interior designer so this is important to me) and the way it opens onto the patio. The only problem is my fiancee doesn't think this space is large enough for 45-50 people, a DJ, and a dancefloor (I think he may be right it seems tight).

I also loved Ariels but we have decided on a sutle Beauty and the beast theme and so Ariels won't work. I guess the other option for us would be 1/2 of one of the ballrooms.

Any opinions or suggestions? Thanks!

Hi!

We were just at Disney in July and toured the Whitehall Room! We are using it for our Vow Renewal reception in December! I understand why you love it. My husband is an architect and I'm going back to school for Interior Design and we wanted something different than a "convention" room. The patio is awesome and the online videos I have seen of receptions in that room are really wonderful.

While we were looking at the Whitehall Room, I spoke to the GF Convention Center Coordinator about the setup of the room. We are only having 25, but I think you may be able to work it out. The dance floor is not large in that room but big enough for several people at a time. As you enter the room it will located on the left against the back wall. The cake goes on the table already setup under the mural. The tables can go on the sides and middle. You would only need 4-5 tables, plus your sweetheart table if you are doing it. If you do the sweetheart table, it goes in front of a pair of doors to the left of the patio entrance. Also, remember that you will have tables outside and that people will be going in and out. I don't think it will ever seem too small.

Another option you may have is at the Contemporary. One of the rooms, I can't remember what the name is, overlooks the Magic Kingdom and is large enough for 50 people. It does have a very "contemporary" look, but it is very nice. We are doing a Christmas theme so it didn't work for us, but if we were doing it at another time of year we definitely would consider it.

The other room that you might like the The Attic at the Boardwalk. We are having our Welcome Reception there. It is a much less formal room (with sofas, small tables, antiques, carousel horses, etc.), but is very charming and prettier than any venue I saw, including the Whitehall Room. The patio is very large and is covered/uncovered and overlooks Crescent Lake and the boardwalk.

I hope this helps out. Please email me if you have any questions or want to talk about Whitehall.

I hope

Thank you for all the info. I also love the contemporary and modern arch BUT I don't think it works for our theme (beauty and beast). I was looking for something with an old world/ ballroom/french type thing going on! We are plannning 5 tables and a sweetheart. I forgot they set up tables outside thanks for reminding me...since we have a few smokers in the mix I am sure there will always be a couple of people outside which will create better circulation! How large do you think the dancefloor is....see my father side is greek and do a lot of dancing so we probably need a dancefloor that will hold 15-20 min at any time! I guess I will have to just speak to someone at dftw...Do you think it is too early to start calling with questions? (our date is not until june 2007)

The whitehall on the otherhand is perfect for you! good luck! hmmmm...now if I could just cut a few people off my list lol...

There is a great weddingvideo that will give you an idea about dance floor and room size.

Go to www.stvsweddings.com/gallery and page down to Lynette and Steve Pavilion/Whitehall. Their reception was in Whitehall and shows the dance floor, outside, etc.

Good Luck,
Lisa

I think it will work just fine. I went down and looked at it last October. They showed me exactly where a dance floor would be set up and there would still be plenty of room. I like things to be intimate. For 50 people and 5 tables I would not suggest going with any larger of a room. As for outside, there is definitely plenty of room. Did you take pictures while you were there? If not, PM me with your email. I think I took a few when I went. I can also get some from my photographer for you who has pictures from all over Disney.

Yes I did take some pics If you have good ones I would love them I will PM you... thanks for all of your advice! I really love this room and want it to work out! So if you do whitehall for the reception where would cocktail hour be?

Hmmm, I think it *might* be a little tight for 50 people if a good portion of the guests aren't outside at any given time. Whitehall actually ended up being our getting ready room, and it really is a beautiful room with lots of interesting details. I would ask DFTW, but I don't think it would accommodate anything but a very small dance floor (smaller than would hold 20 ppl at a time). You could perhaps put some of the tables outside, but I don't know what the rain backup would be. I'm sure someone at DFTW can help with that though. Enjoy your planning!

Just spoke to my Coordinator Michelle, yesterday and the cocktail hour or pre-reception is held on the patio. At least for my event it will be because it's in December. But I guess it would be pretty much for any event. I asked to have it as Mizner's Lounge in the GF lobby for the pre-reception, but they wouldn't let me use it. I even said I'd pay extra for it, but no.
