Based on several comments on this board, I decided to try out White Water Snacks, located by the pool at the Grand Cal. Hotel. First off, there is very easy access from DCA to this restaurant as it is just inside the gate to the hotel from inside the park. Also, it was very nice to be able to get away from the crowds for a nice quiter lunch.

I remember reading comments here about the portion sizes being large, but quite frankly, I have heard that before and didn't believe it (I am a Big eater). Well I am here to tell you that I definately believe it now!!! For myself, I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which came with fresh guacamole (really more like fresh chunk avocado with a little salsa, very good) and a large roasted pepper. The chicken breast was a full breat, not a half breast that you would normally expect. It also came with a lot of fries and was $7.25. My wife and oldest son both had the chicken salad sandwich which is already prepared and you grab it from the cooler. It came on a croissant and had a few strawberries as well. The sandwiches are $5.25 each, and my wife and son could not finish them (my son is 13 btw). My 13 year old DS also ordered an Icee, but did not care for it as he said it was waaaaayyy to sweet, $2.50. My 2 little ones (4 and 2) had the kids meals; one grilled cheese ($4.25) and the other chicken fingers ($4.95). Both came with a huge basket of fries. Neither child was able to even put a dent in their kids meal. It would have made more sense to just have them split one. My sister and her family ate with us as well. The 2 adults split a meal, then tried to eat a little of what their kids didn't finish either. In the end, a whole lot of food ended up in the trash (I am really sorry to say).

All in all, this place was great with both indoor and outdoor seating. They take credit cards and you do not have to be staying at the hotel to eat there. We will definately be back in the future. The only criticism I can make of the place is that you have to grab all of your drinks and stuff first, then go to the cashier and pay, and at that time you order food for the grill. This is not a tremendously bad thing by any means, just different that what you might expect. The reason they do this is because once you pay and order, you can take a seat and they will bring the hot food to your table when it is ready. If you have any questions, please ask.

I had the same sandwich you did and not only is it huge but very delicious. Since we live here, we are used to what they call "California cuisine" and this is it! And the fries are about three times as much as a McDonald's supersize:rolleyes: But 5infam, you simply must try the breakfast burrito, it is to die for. My DD17 and split that with a fruit bowl and were in heaven.

Thanks for the review!:D

Its one of the treasures at DLR- I had a kids meal last time and was full after :) I love that place :)

Do they frown upon adults ordering children's meals? Or did they not make a fuss about it? I'm not a big eater and often order children's meals when allowed.

mbkteach,

I would doubt that they would make a big deal about a kids meal for an adult. I have done this many times at DL/WDW and have never been questioned about it. An adult would be just fine with a kids meal at this place.

lulubelle,

After lunch, I went back over to the board and did a quick scan to see if they had breakfast items. To my joy, I saw the breakfast burritos on the menu and was hopeing they were good. We like to stay at the GCH for a night or 2 in December, and usually opt to eat at Storytellers. However, this year, I will be eating breakfast burritos instead!!!

Ive never had a problem at DL/WDW with ordering kids meals- I think they realize that some people eat huge ($$$) meals once a day then little meals the other meal- Or people just arnt that hungry (which can happen if its quite hot)

Ive gotten kids meals and used a CM ID to get a discount and they dont care- Also how do they know you arnt having to do the restaraunt shuffle (get the kid a meal here so the rest of the family can eat where they want to...)

<font color=navy>Great review! Thank you so much. :)

I've only eaten here once when we stayed at the hotel back in 2001. I see I'll have to go back and 'refresh' my memory.

Thanks for the review! We will have to remember that if the parks are bit too :crowded: !! Sounds llike a nice break...with out having to go too far!
When you say you can sit outside...is it poolside?

Maci,

Unfortunately it is not poolside, but you can see the pool (I'm pretty sure), but you are not looking directly at it. The pool is fenced off and you need a resort ID to enter. However, there are tables just outside of the indoor seating area. You could easily follow someone into the pool area though (such as a waitress) because the bar is also outside the pool fence and the waitresses were going in and out quit often.

I ordered a kids Grilled Cheese with no problem. It was HUGE. I could have split with my DD10. Even my 13 yo could not finish her kids meal (can't remember what she got, something meaty I am sure).

Maybe you should delete this thread....White Water is a hidden treasure and the less people that know about it, the better......;)

Lol, jordanyosh -- I know just what you mean!

We were there back in March w/a group of people, and one of my friends was telling us how long she had to wait for her food. I wouldn't want to see it get any worse.

I have a weird question about the grilled cheese sandwich. Was it made with real cheese, or plastic wrapped processed cheese? I'll be visiting DL with my best friend next Sept, and would love to try there, but only if the sandwich is made with real cheese, I can't stand that plastic wrapped processed garbage, it has no taste to it whatsoever!!

Thanks

Jules

I don't think that it is the small plastic wrap kind, but more than likely is the processed big block kind. I had a small bite of one and I really don't remember, but if you are expecting a good aged cheddar - forget about it!! Your best bet is to ask up front and I'm sure they will fill you in. Maybe someone else knows for sure - I won't be going back until September myself as I am now blocked out on my passes (well in a few days anyway). Good luck!!

I am sure it the same stuff you will find on any cheeseburger in the resort. Most likely processed american cheese.

Just thought I would add. We ate here last week. And really liked it! It is such a nice quiet break from the parks! Everyone in our party, kept saying what a great idea it was to go there!

Had to tell my husband all my hours on the DIS..really DO help!!;)

Thanks for the pointer!!
