I’m wondering about the logistics of this ride. I read somewhere, here maybe, that the train ride is 3 hours of sitting on benches not seats. My husband had a hip replacement he hasn’t fully recovered from (he’s walking and all but). If it’s a really uncomfortable ride for back/hip issues he will be miserable. Anyone have feedback?

We did the train in 2019 but I can’t find any pics of the inside of the train cars, only have pics of the views and scener. LOL!

The train tries to hold to the period so it is not extravagant or very ergonomic. If you want you can move around and I did spend time out on the platform between cars but you will not be allowed to transfer to other cars. Not sure if you are comfortable walking on a moving train but you are not restricted to your seat.

I believe there is a fancy, “private“ car at the back that can be booked that has more plush seating (for a charge) but it is still period furniture and has reduced or private booking capacity.

Padded seats (similar to a school bus)..

The VIP car has very comfortable swivel chairs, one per side of the train. Highly recommended. adults only and comes with small snacks and beverages (alcoholic and non) included.

I did this excursion in 2017 and then there was an option for the train up and then mini bus, with comfy/plush seats, for the way back. This option also allowed for stopping and getting pictures along the way and with the “Alaska” state sign.

thanks all, we've kept the excursion for now. sailing in less than a month and just hoping everything goes well!

We just came back, and had 4 in our party with various significant orthopedic issues. No one had issues on the regular train seats. They are well padded and the train doesn’t jerk around much. It’s also quite easy to stand and to walk around

All train trips are round trip this year and then they will add on bus portions depending on the tour you book as they are not "technically" crossing into Canada on the train this year.
