I've always preferred colored lights, but my sister taught me a cool trick. She puts white lights in the center of the tree - around the trunk - and then lots of colored lights all around. The white lights brighten the interior of the tree which creates a lovely effect.
We have 2 trees. Our big one is in the family room and has colored lights and the smaller one in the living room has white lights and all Disney ornaments.
We use multi-colored on the tree here - but I have also seen some with just white lights that are absolutely gorgeous!!
It would never happen here (because DD is MM crazy - LOL), but I've been in Christmas shops where trees are "theme" decorated - meaning there might be nothing but purple bows on a white tree; all lacy ornaments on another tree; a green tree with nothing but small red bows; etc. - and I do have to say they're very, very pretty..
I learned this year that it really depends on what type of ornaments you're putting on the tree. My parents had a tree with white lights for their lennox ornaments. They decided to get a new tree this year for the lennox ornaments. It has colored lights built-in.
I didn't even know that people put clear lights on Christmas trees. I don't think that I have ever been in a home with a Christmas tree lit up in only clear lights. Interesting thought.
