In the Here Now, Just Back forum, a discussion about White Noise Machines started and I thought it might be useful for other people if we brought that conversation into a new thread.

A couple of additional points about BC. We were on the bottom level next to the quiet pool. My DW bought a white noise machine from Amazon. It is small, rechargeable and comes in a convenient case. I recommend getting one and placing it near your window or the door depending on your room location to wipe out the noise from the other areas of the hotel.
It's funny you brought up the white noise machine. DH and I have talked several times about getting one, but we never actually buy one, and then when we are staying in a hotel and have noisy neighbors or hear kids running up and down the hall, we always ask ourselves why we didn't buy one, lol. I will definitely have to look into purchasing one.
I LOVE a white noise machine, we just bought a tiny one for travel, to replace the one that we wore out.
You can use white noise apps too right on your phone-same concept and one less thing to buy/pack. :) My family loves white noise. We use the app and have also been known to travel with a box fan, haha. Thank God we drive.

I love using white noise machines - we have one permanently stored in our luggage for trips. We actually use them at home as well, because we live in a city, downtown, on a bus route and high-use street near a college with many young people out-and-about at night. Helped A LOT when my kids were babies. I also like them close to our heads and will use the phone app in a pinch but not my first choice. I actually really like the Sharper Image brand - even though they are expensive - because you don't hear the loops nearly as much as you can on some of the cheap ones.

I use my Amazon Echo Dot for the same purpose. We always take one on vacation with us since they are so small.

Oooo, I never thought of bringing an Echo. You could also listen to music or audiobooks with it as well! Did you have to add a special white noise "song" or track, or can you just tell it?

I like to listen to ocean sounds/waves crashing as my white noise. So I just tell it to play ocean sounds. I’m sure there are numerous commands. I’d have to play around with it to see what other ones it would play.

The best white noice machines are the HVAC systems. Unfortunately, they are hit or miss at the resorts, some rattle, others have noisy compressors, in others the fans automatically turn off. I've used an iPhone on one side of the room and an iPad on the other to try and balance out the sound.

I use a white noise app on my phone. Didn't cost a thing since the app is free!

I have an app on my phone too. We have it play rain sounds when we travel. At home we tell Alexa to play rain sounds at night.

We travel with a Bluetooth speaker and use that with a white noise app for me. Light speaker so hotel noises really bother me. I find that putting it closer to my head really helps and if I hear something I just hit the volume on my phone that I can stash even closer and I barely wake up. It’s helped SO much!

I need white noise to sleep. I use them at home, and they are a must have whenever I travel. I purchased this one most recently from Amazon for $29.99, and I really like it. Lots of sound options, and it's super tiny, so it fits nicely in luggage. I am quick to locate "hiccups" in the sound loops in most sound machines, and this one doesn't have the loop hiccup in the storm setting. I'm not sure about the other settings, as the storm setting is the one I use every night.

The app has white noise, pink noise, blue noise, and purple noise. I've listened to them and they do sound different from one another. I actually like pink noise the best. I used to think it strange I couldn't sleep in the dead quiet, but I realize now a lot of people are like that. Normally I use fans, but my small travel fan is pretty quiet, so I add in the pink noise :flower:

I hope my DSis does not read this thread or we will be bringing a box fan with us on vacation.:lmao:

Not sure where you are staying, but I've seen on the POP thread that you can borrow a box fan from guest services...

We all have a free white noise app on our phones.

Yes we do, but not all of us want to use it for legitimate reasons - noise loops, volume, other noises/dings/rings coming from the phone... Sometimes a dedicated device can work better than the phone, just like some still prefer Magicbands.

On the apps, I like “Brown Noise” best of all the colors. I do prefer the physical white noise machines though. I swear I can hear when the recorded ones restart the audio loop.
