It is almost time for our Norway cruise! I ordered a white noise machine recently, and just noticed that it may not be allowed onboard, or at least would be subject to inspection. If that is the case, would it be best to have it in my carryon rather than checked luggage?

Thanks! I wasn't trying to avoid getting it checked, just wanted to do whatever is easiest for the people that need to do that. I read the electricians might need to take a look, and I wasn't sure if they would be available during the carryon screening.

We used to travel with a traditional noise machine that had to be inspected each cruise. If you put it in checked luggage, it is guaranteed to make it onto the ship. But, whatever bag it is in will be delayed in getting to your stateroom. If you put it in carryon, it will be removed at the port for inspection. No guarantees it makes it on the ship - we had a vornado fan disappear at the port after it was removed from our luggage.

We have gone to a USB small fan and USB white noise machine. This was what the officer in charge of inspecting fans/white noise machines on the fantasy suggested. They do not need to be checked by maintenance staff.

And yet my breathing machine (CPAP) has never been inspected. Always a carryon, as all things electronic/ breakable are.

We’ve taken a portable white noise machine on two Disney cruises. It’s battery operated but rechargeable with USB, and small enough to fit in the palm of my hand. We haven’t had any issues.

We brought one and no issues at all. Luggage even showed up right in time. Probably depends greatly on who is operating the x ray scanner at the time your bag goes through!

We always travel with a white noise machine and have had no issues 🤷‍♀️ we use the Dohm smaller size, but it’s a proper white noise machine (using fans, not digital).

ETA: it’s always in a checked bag

We bring one for our daughter as she loves the wave noise when she goes to sleep and hers runs on AA batteries. We have been on 24 cruises and never had an issue.
