White Mtns or Lake Region, NH - where have you stayed?

Camping or hotel? Kids stay at Camp Calumet in Ossipee every summer for 2 weeks and they have a family camp area that if fantastic! They also go up several times during the year with the youth group from church. There are a number of campgrounds in that area though.

I really enjoy the White Mountains area. I bought a place up there to vacation at all year long. So much to see and do up there.

We've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in North Conway. Convienient for shopping, and VERY clean, new. The Conway Grand (not sure of the exact name other nh'ers help...) in settlers green is very good. Friends swear by Attitash any time of the year. The Inns at Mill Falls and those associated with them (on Lake Winnepesaukee) have an excellent reputation as well.

We also like the Green Granite in North Conway. It is convenient to lots of activities and restaurants.

The White Mountains is a BIG area with a LOT of choices and price ranges........
Check out Waterville Valley---of the resorts associated with the ski area I've stayed at the Snowy Owl Inn as well as the Black Bear condos.

I love the Mount Washington Hotel - an wonderful old "grand resort".

Loon and Attitash as othe posters have suggested also offer a variety of options in wide price ranges and both great areas.

Jackson NH has a lot of great B&B establishments.

Conway area traffic is HORRIBLE I haven't been there in years LOL

As far as the Lakes Region I live too close for it to be a leisure destination ...but I've stayed at the Inn at Mills Falls (for business) across the street from the Winnipesaukee lakefront in Meredith, nice place but too me it doesn't offer much as far as location...probably because I prefer the White Mtns rather than the lakes region...Winipesaukee is overly developed IMHO. The Inn is basically in a commercial area....though the lake is across the street and if you have a nice view it's fine but there are no "grounds" to speak of. The Margate in Laconia is another place I've stayed on business, it is a lakefront resort with more vacation -type amenites than the Inn at Mills Falls...IMHO.
If you're doing on-line searches check out places on Squam, ("On Golden Pond" location, Winnisquam, Newfound, as well as Winnipasaukee.

Have FUN! :)

My hairdresser has stayed at the Green Granite in North Conway.

Another vote for the Holiday Inn Express in North Conway. We stayed there 2 yrs ago I think.

I prefer North Conway for hotels & restaurants over the Franconia area......but I like the Franconia Notch area during the day. Go figure.

The Inn At Jackson Village in jackson. In the Lakes region, the Wolfeboro Inn is nice. Also, The Wakefiled Inn in Wakefiled is a very nice, quaint B&B.

thank you
anyone ever hear of the Jack OLantern resort in Woodstock?

We drive by there quite often. Man are the grounds and buildings beautiful! Big golfing resort. They have a beautiful swan that lives in the pond in the front of the property. See it all the time.

Friends have stayed there also. Again, big golfers. They have great golf packages.

I've been up there many times but my favorite place is the Mount Washington Hotel. It's ENORMOUS! Grand old style and fabulous food.

It's been a few years since my last visit but back then you had to wear nice clothes to eat in the main dining room. Suit coat for the guys and a pants suit or dress for the ladies. There is another restaurant that you can go to and dress less formally as well.

The standard rooms are just over $100 a night and the deluxe ones can go for $400+. It's not the rooms that knock you over, it's the view from the back porch. It looks out on Mt. Washington and the other surrounding mountains. The view is ever changing.

No matter where you stay, that area of New Hampshire has many, many thing to do.

deer mountain resort in Lincoln and by North Conwais so nice we went up there after we got married like 5 years ago it was sooo beautiful
I used to live up there Gilford, laconia area is so nice as well lots to do in the summer and wonderful B&B year round

Jack O Lantern is a nice place.... The only problem is it is at the very very begining of the White Mountains. If you are going to do anything up there you will hav e to drive a distance to do it.... It is close though to both the MTNs and the Lakes. Sorta at the end of one area and the begining of the other...

We've stayed at Attitash and enjoyed it. We love Waterville Valley and have stayed at the Black Bear Lodge which was nice and the Golden Eagle that we love.

Stay away from the Village at Loon Mtn. We used to love it there but we were there 2 years ago and it was run down and dirty. This is not the Mtn. Club at Loon which looks really nice.

There are many great places to stay and everyone has been giving you good advise. We've stayed at the Green Granite, Fox Ridge (I think that's the name), the hotel at Settler's Green (used to be a Sheraton I think, don't know what's it's called now). My favorite area is Jackson. There are great places to stay there too. We were there this past Columbus Day and noticed a new resort opened in Jasckson across from my favorite breakfast place, Yesterday's. It's called Snowflake Inn and it's just for adults. We aren't ready for that yet, but someday we would love to stay there. Brand new and really wonderful looking inside. All rooms have king size beds, big tubs, etrc. VERY romantic!! There are quite a few bed and breakfast type of inns around the area also. If you are an AAA member get the trip book for New Hampshire. Also maybe go online. We love the White Mountain area and hope you will too!!

Have Fun!!

A few years ago we stayed at the Nordic Village in Jackson, NH and really enjoyed it. They have heated indoor and outdoor pools and jacuzzis, an ice skating pond, and it's fairly close to many shopping outlets and ski areas.

We went to the White Mountains for vacation in early June 2003. Loved it! We stayed at a place called Eastern Inns in North Conway. They have great rates during certain times of the year. The rooms were nothing luxurious but they were clean and had a seperate sleeping area with two queen beds and a small living room/ kitchenette area. They also have an indoor pool and free continental breakfast. While the hotel was in North Conway, it was a good distance off the road in the woods so it was nice and quiet and woodsy while still being close to everything. We were very happy there.

:D Let me know if you would like more info.
