Is your jewelry set white or yellow gold? Does anyone wear a yellow gold wedding set but white gold/silver for all other jewelry? Which one do you think makes the diamond stand out more?
Both of my rings are platinum, since I never, ever wear yellow gold. I think diamonds look beautiful with white and yellow gold; it just depends on your personal preference.
I think white gold rings need to be "treated" one a year, some kind of re-plating or rhodium treatment to keep their shine? I dont know the technical term, sorry! Ask your jewler!
My engagement ring is platinum. Don't have the wedding band yet, but it probably will be too. I think the white gold or platinum helps showcase the diamond more, makes it look more brilliant somehow, but most of my other jewelry is yellow gold (it goes very well with my skin tone). I just wear both
But I do see plenty of gorgeous wedding jewelry sets that are yellow gold.

You are absolutely correct, here in MI the cost at my jeweler is $45 each time it's done. I have 5 bands and two are yellow gold and 3 are white. The jeweler told me not to have them hooked together because they need to dip them. We had only the white gold ones, but I wanted the yellow added. I wear both colors and I hate when people mix them.

Well, just between us chickens my poor DH has been told our 10th anniversary ring is when I get one very much like yours! That is two years away, and I still have to pay for my precious's DFTW, but we will find a way!
I am a bit of an ignoramous, though. I didn't realize you could dip them. Mine actually is showing a bit of a yellow tinge showing through.

Are you getting this ring before or after your 10th anniversary trip? heehee! I don't want to have to wait for my 10th for all the good stuff!
Not to or anything! I personally am not a huge fan of yellow gold. My engagement ring is platinum but I say go with what you like more. It's unrealistic to plan all your jewlery around your rings for the rest of your life. OHH- or you can get two sets. One in each color! That sounds nice!

It depends on the wearer how often they need to be plated. Even platinum is normally plated - it's natural form is dull and they polish and plate it to give the shine, though with Platinum the color will never change like it can with white gold. My set is white gold. I've had my engagement ring for 2 years and 2 months now and it's never shown yellow, but I've had it plated to bring back the shine. $45 is really a lot for plating. I've worked in 2 different national chain stores, and in both you could buy a plan that would cover it (at Jared it's lifetime) or it was around $20 for a one time plating. I suppose if they charge $45 for 3 rings that's not too bad, but a lot of places will even do it for free if you bought it from them. It's worth asking!
As far as what looks better - that's all personal preference. I can tell you that TONS of people mix their jewelry colors, so just whatever you like best is the way to go - you'll be the one wearing it!
My engagement ring is platinum, my favorite metal. My wedding band is yellow gold anniversary band. I was going to get a platinum band but this ring belonged to my Grandmother who died 2 months before our wedding.
