White balance setting

Do you let camera set the white balance (automatic) or do you do it manually?

I let it do it automatically but I shoot a raw file and can change it in post if need be. That's the short answer. Lol

Another vote for auto and adjusting the image WB in my photo editing software if needed.

I also shoot RAW and leave the WB on auto so I don't have to worry about until editing. If it's crucial to nail the color I'll grab a shot of my color checker for reference when i go edit.

Outdoors.... I'm lazy and just use auto.

Indoors... depends on whether I have the flash....

• with the flash... it over powers most white balance issues
• without the flash... yes I do adjust for tungsten or fluorescent. Expodisc (coffee filter?) is handy in mixed lighting conditions for calibration. You can also get white balance lens covers.

Same as above. Shoot in RAW and have the White Balance set to Auto.

However, on a recent trip to Lower Antelope Canyon I shot in Manual Mode and changed the WB to Cloudy. This seemed to work very well given the lightening conditions in the canyon.

It's really dependent on the situation though.

It depends for me, if it's a regular sunny/cloudy day with not much change, I'll set it, check while I'm shooting that it looks decent, and continue on.

If a show/parade is starting and the clouds keep covering and then exposing the sun, or I'm shooting something like FOLK, Fantasmic, etc, I'll throw it on Auto and deal with it later, too much to worry about and not enough time to worry about changing the settings during a shoot like that
