I bought a super cute white skirt a few weeks ago and I want to wear it this weekend but I can hear my mom in my ear saying “never wear white after Labor Day.” I’m a middle aged woman who has never, under any circumstances, worn white after Labor Day.

What say you? White after Labor Day… Is it A-OK or No Way?

It’s fine where I live, but it also feels like July here. In fact, I wear white year round in one form or another. I think especially in September when even areas with four seasons are still transitioning between summer and fall that it would be acceptable to wear it. If anyone says anything about it, it’s their issue, not yours.

My sister told me, women after 40 don't wear jeans. I wear jeans. Not white jeans though. LOL

Don't people wear a lot of white at Christmas??? Are those people breaking rules???
The only people breaking the no white rules are those wearing white clothes this week on WDW water rides… Every. Single. One. (No m’am, no one wanted to know what you were wearing under those white shorts you wore on the River Rapid ride 🙄)

It’s definitely an American thing - here in Australia there hasn’t been a rule about wearing white ever in either my Mum’s time (she’s 78) or my lifetime (54 in October).
Even to weddings? When the bride wears white it’s sorta frowned on for women to wear white to a wedding in the US.

I’ve heard that one as well. Also women over 40 shouldn’t have long hair. I have long hair AND wear jeans (but only in the winter).
I'm turning 45 next week. I have long hair and wear white jeans as well as regular ones. One of the younger guys in the warehouse heard it was my birthday and was shocked because he thought I was in my mid 30s. I don't keep my age a secret because I really don't care. Just happy to be alive (childhood cancer survivor). All these "rules" are garbage as long as you are respectful/appropriate to the occasion. Do what makes YOU feel good.

As they say: If you matter then you don't mind and if you mind then you don't matter.

Go for it! I wear white, especially white jeans, all year. Maybe give a nod to the season by using seasonal colors, a sweater or a scarf - unless its 80+ where you are. Then wear what you want!
