Hi everyone -

We will be staying for part of our trip onsite this time (woo hoo!) at Wilderness Lodge - and I'm so excited!

I know that they have a restaurant there - Whispering Canyon, and I want to know a bit about it.

My daughter is highly sensitive - and really loud startling noises scare her. Is this a fun environment, or more of a loud startling yelling. I have heard they yell or something when someone asks for ketchup. I really dont want to spend the money and then have to leave because of the fact that its SO LOUD, so any honest opinions of the restuarant would be fantastic - thanks!

It is very loud. Anyone with noise sensitivity should skip it. The CM's yell about ketchup, they yell about birthdays, they yell about all kinds of things.

The other restaurant, Artist Point, is a signature restaurant and the food is very very good, the restaurant is one of the quietest on property.

Vester,
It depends on the day really. It can get pretty loud, especially if you have alot of servers that are into their role.
They don't just yell ketchup, they scream for it, over and over until the ketchup is on the way.
They also bang the trays (the wooden things they set the tray of food on at your table) on the floor as they come by.

It is a very fun place and good food, but you know your child best. You could ask to sit in the corner or in the back so you are not in the middle of things. Of course you may get it you may not.

Since you are staying there, what you could do is make the adr for later in your trip and check it out when you get there. Observing it for a while may give you an indication if she could handle it or not.

Best of luck!

Well, it's a fun environment but I believe they really do a fair amount of yelling. We went one time early (before 5:00) and it was pretty quiet, but we've been other times when servers were yelling all over the place just for fun.

DH has always wanted to eat here so in Aug 09 we stayed at the WL and I booked us lunch on our departure day...the food was terrible, very fatty and greasy and just blech. The server was a dud, he had no personality and we didnt do any fun and games and jokes with us.

We were so disappointed when we tried it, we were seated almost 45 min past our adr time. It was so loud and the food was so bad. We like to have fun, I love a prank but to be loud just to make noise gets old after a while. Dd only was able to hear ketchup once, I would eat at Artist point.

We had the best nachos at the little bar in Wilderness lodge. Dd had a chocolate milk, I had a coke, and Dh had a beer. We just needed a break, the place was nice and quiet and the food was great.

We have stayed WL many times, and always enjoyed WC. Its all about the theme at some resturants and although it gets loud thats what its about. Hoop DE Doo Revue is loud with audience interaction and its the most popular show in WDW.. We always got their BBQ Skillet and enjoyed the food there. Its all you can eat and drink on the Skillet...

I would skip it. We always stay at WL and always eat at WC, this last trip the food was really lacking. Sadly to say, we won't eat there again. It is really loud and crazy, I wouldn't suggest it for a child that is sensitive to loud noises. You will love the Lodge, have a wonderful trip!! :goodvibes

I would recommend Artist Point and suggest you skip WCC. It can be loud, there can be large groups of drunks, food is not the restaurants selling point and service is something you get sometimes. The boat ride over to the MK is an easy ride...then either take the monorail or the GF/PR water launch and you have reached destinations with far better offerings than WCC.

I have loved WC ever since I first ate breakfast there in 1998. We all requested water as our beverage and the waiter took away all of our mugs. We figured he was going to fill them up and bring them back. No no, he brings back one of those huge clear plastic tubs that restaurants usually use to soak peeled potatoes in. it was filled with water, ice and cut up lemon wedges. He chucked a bunch of straws on the table and said "Here's your water. When you're done, there's more in the creek out back!"

Anyway, we always have fun and we love the place HOWEVER I now have 6 year old and four year old step sons and they both do not like loud noises. While I think they'd love the fun jokes and **** horse races, I won't be taking them until they've grown out of this phase. You know your daughter best. If she doesn't like loud noises, I'd avoid it.

We ate there last summer and really liked it, but it was loud! IMHO there are startling noises which based on what you said, would upset your child.

When my sister went she gave the kids ear plugs and told them it was part of the ticket to get in. They wore them and handled it rather well and had a blast with the cut down noise for their ears. This year when we take the baby we are going to bring ear muffs that we use for winter for her. We use it in movies now for when we go as a family and she is sleeping.

Wow, I have been there twice, and had good experiences both times. As for it being loud, I can only say well, what did you expect? It's a family restaurant with a heavy focus on kids.:confused3 This is why you have the kids circling the tables on "horseback." This is the whole reason behind the ketchup thing. Incidentally, the ketchup is brought to you by another family, not the Cast Members, so if you are having a problem with the ketchup, go get it.

The wait staff is required to be loud and upbeat, that is part of the atmosphere. Truly, I am sorry you had a bad time; however, it's a noisy place, always has been, always will be.

And knowing that, it sounds to me like the OP should really avoid going there.

So to get to WC from MK, take the boat? And I can take it back right? This will be our first time there and I have 5pm reservations. I want to make sure we can take the boat back. The kids would love riding on a boat!

I didn't find it really loud. We had a 5:00 dinner (when it opens) and my niece was chosen to ring the dinner bell. We were seated at the front of the restaurant near the window. We didn't ask for ketchup but other tables did and we could hear the noise, but I didn't find it really loud (I'm sure it would be too loud for someone that has sensitivity to noise).

I would suggest booking a 5pm dinner if you do decide to go as the restaurant will have just opened and won't be full.

My DH has a heart condition Iworried about the noise. He LOVED the place. If you really want to try it they have a small room off the main dining room and that is where we were sat the first night we went. There are only about 5 tables back there and it was very peacefull. Our waitress would come and let my little guy know when they were doing fun things in the main room so he could join if we wanted. We actually went back for a second time during out trip and DH wants to eat there everyother nite when we go back in Dec.

TinkeringPam : You said that there were other "fun things" that they do there - what do they do there besides yell for ketchup! (Haha!) I must be missing something haha! :)

Thanks!
