Whispering Canyon Lunch Concerns

I just looked at the menu and am so very disappointed with the new one. Fresh fish and steak are both gone which would have been our choices. To Be Honest we were going for the kids fun factor but looks like nothing on the menu they or we would want and these reviews is making me wonder if we should do ADR at Concourse steakhouse that night instead? We went 2 years ago and it was good, last year service was bad but food was still good. Anymore input is great we are just not ribs and meatloaf people. We have plenty of Character meals planned so the kids would be fine Help with idea's as we are already doing O'hana, Spoodles, Kona Cafe, Chef mickey's, Play and Dine B'fast, Crystal Palace, Norway Princess Dinner and Coral Reef. Need another meal close to Mk and don't care for Tony's and LTT doesn't appeal to us food wise. Thanks

I totally agree with you that the new menu is disappointing. We have a reservation for 6pm on the day we check in to the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. We made the reservation 180 days in advance and thought that after a trans-atlantic flight this would be a good choice. I am now seriously considering driving to Bennigans and then getting our groceries at WalMart a day early!

hmm peel and eat shrimp , did not have it there before

and on the kids meal menu I dont see the skillet, they still have it for the kids right?

I want to comment on the fun factor. I have seen that dramatically decrease also over the last 3 times we have been there. My sister went and said that same thing and I called the restaurant to ask them to give her an expecially hard time. I have not gone on my last 2 trips but this time my DD is celebrating her birthday and where does she want to go? WCC. sigh!

I just now rearranged my ADR's. I had a dinner ADR for WCC on Dec. 18 and X-mas day lunch at Kona. I just flip flopped them, dinner at Kona and lunch at WCC X-mas day. I want to eat at WCC, mainly for my husbands and kiddos sake. I wasn't thrilled w. the menu to begin with, now even less so. At least for lunch they have the chicken salad and it won't cost us so much if the experience isn't fantastic. Plus I like the dinner menu at Kona better then the lunch menu.

I'm wondering about this also. I may consider trying to switch ADR's if they no longer offer the kid's skillet. Anyone know the answer to this one?

Can the OP update this thread title and post, and ask if anyone has had lunch there in the last week or so, to see if the lunch menu, so we dont need to make a 2nd thread? I'm dying to know if lunch is still ok

I had a thread going about the kids skillet and someone went in July and confirmed the skillet is no longer on the kid's menu.

Ughh, now where to go. I really wanted the nachos, we were going to do this for lunch before MNSSHP! Grrrrr!

We ate lunch there the last week of April, and it was very good. We had the skillet, and the server was very accomodating to substitute items when we asked.

I haven't seen the updated menus, I'll have to check them out and see if they have changed since April.

Ok, I just checked the menu on allearsnet.com which is dated May 2007, and the nachos are on the lunch menu. Has anyone confirmed that the menu has changed since then? Sorry, maybe someone did say this and I missed it in the thread.

So is the lunch menu still the same? Allears still had the nachos on the lunch menu.

Yes - I checked, and the lunch menu is from May while the dinner menu is from July.
That just means nobody has provided that site with a more current WCC lunch menu.
For the record, while a number of the dinner choices have changed, there is now one more entrée than there was before (and one less appetizer). The desserts haven’t changed. But, in all honesty – and I’m not talking about the quality of the food, which apparently is less than desirable according to these recent WCC diners – people would be upset if a restaurant NEVER changed its menu, too.
If the food is bad, they’ll figure it out and change again.

And then ‘someone else’ ;) went and double-checked the WCC kids menu and found – tada! – the skillet, as one of the Kids Picks entrees:
Kid's Picks
Choice of one appetizer, one entree and one dessert $7.49
French Fries and Soft Drinks available upon request
Appetizers: Watermelon OR Garden Salad
Entrees: Cheeseburger OR Macaroni and Cheese OR Canyon Skillet (Add $2.00 for Skillet)Desserts: Cinnamon Apples OR Chocolate Chip Cookies OR Worms in Dirt

I was just there last week and the "kids skillet" is no longer. They have the same old kids menu that almost every other restaurant has.

They were also the only restaurant that made a deal at of my mother and I sharing a meal (no it wasn't the skillet but a plated dinner). We ended up ordering an appetizer salad to go with the dinner.

This restaurant will be on the list that I review. You can see it on the link below if you are interested.

I copied this from another post of first hand experience with the kids skillet.

I understand that. I'm keeping up on both threads.

The WCC dinner menus for both adults and kids were updated on allearsnet.com in July 2007. I copied and pasted the information from that site. The July 2007 kids menu on that site shows that the kids skillet IS currently available, unless the restaurant changed their menu twice this month.

I didn't want to do this, out of respect for the DIS/wdwinfo, but here's http://allearsnet.com/menu/men_wcdk.htm the link to the 7/07 WCC kids menu.

Now I'm concerned. DH and I have this planned as a late lunch the day of our anniversary before we go to MVMCP. We both wanted to get the skillet. Should I change my ressie now? It's for Dec. 4 so I might be able to find something. Or should I just find out for myself? We've never been there before and I'm not too interested in the antics so I wouldn't know what I was missing.

I was concerned about the skillet not being on the child's menu since we have a ressie there next month. So I called Disney and they told me the skillet is still available on the adult and child's menu, that there have not been any recent changes to the menu at WCC. It makes sense, how could they not offer it to children when the adults at the table order it? Because they set out one large skillet per table.

Kaytieeldr- Thanks for the post and yes it is listed now however earlier the skillet was not coming up under the child's menu I even had my husband read it to make sure I wasn't missing it. I did put in the other post I started that perhaps it got left off. It appears now they have added back to the kid's menu listing on allears. Earlier it cut off at pick one and then didn't list anything below it, mayber they were updating it while I pulled it up. Who knows stranger things have happened. But since another person went in July and was told no kid's skillet I am a little perplexed:confused: .

Either way I am OK since we don't go till Dec. surely we will get a bunch of reviews from the "free dining" and hopefully they won't take it off. Maybe it was just a fluke that they said it wasn't available to her.

I'll be having lunch at WCC this Saturday, and as long as I remember I will take notice of the menu, including whether the kids skillet is on there or not, as well as the nachos.

I just hope they haven't changed the menu. :confused3

I have just looked at the menu on allearsnet (just updated) and it seems seriously cut back to what it used to be. Further evidence of the Dining Plan's impact? Nachos have gone, fish of the day gone, no pork chops, Canyon veggie plate is no longer... and the skillet now has peel-and-eat shrimp (??) Anyone eaten there lately..we have reservations in two weeks! Thanks

You should check the menu again on allears. They still have the nachos, they still have the veggie plate, no pork chops but it doesn't say anything about the shrimp with the skillet. Perhaps you were looking at the wrong menu????
