Whispering Canyon??? Is it too much for a tired family?????

We fly out of North Dakota to Disney at 5:00 a.m., which means we will be up about 3:00 a.m., I am wondering if Whispering Canyon for supper is a little too overwhelming. P.S My husband seems to be on the conservative side too. This is the one ADR that I cannot decide on. It could be fun and it could be just overwhelming for everyone. By the way, we are staying at WL. Also has anyone had the pasta at WCC?????

I think it'll be too much.

The last two trips we did the early early flight. Up at 3am, 6am flight, etc. First trip, we went straight to MGM for the day. Suitcases in the car and everything. We had a 5pm reservation at Brown Derby - were so exhausted we went in an hour early to see if we could get seated earlier so we could get to our hotel earlier. While waiting, my DH fell sound asleep on the sofa in their small waiting area. He was completely oblivious to the chaos around him. We mustered through dinner but barely made it.

Second trip with that early of a flight we wised up and chose to not hit a park that day nor make a dinner reservation. When you get 3 hours sleep the night before, have some jet lag, and the tiredness that traveling gives you, it just wasn't worth it. We wandered our hotel, grabbed a quick bite at the hotel, sat in the hot tub, and got to bed early so we could make it the rest of the week.

WCC is not fun if you're cranky and tired. Or maybe I'm the only one that gets cranky when I'm exhausted and had no sleep? I would not find the WCC antics amusing if I'd slept 3 hours the night before. If it's something you want to really experience and get into, I'd plan it for when your family is at their best and ready for some fun.

If there is no room in your schedule for it later in the trip, you could keep the reservation and decide that day.

If your family isn't going to be into the antics, there's not a lot of point in going to WCC.

You're welcome to tell your server that you're all tired and you don't want to participate, but the restaurant is still extremely loud and raucous - tray banging, bell ringing, hootin and hollering, stick pony races. Not something I'd be in the mood for after being up at 3 AM, that's for sure.

It's tough, since you're staying at WL and that would be most convenient after your long day of travel. How about taking the boat over to FW and eating at Trails' End? The boat ride is relaxing and the trip is short.

Or, you can take the boat to CR, and eat at The Wave, or hop a monorail from CR to GF (Grand Floridian Cafe) or Poly (Kona Cafe). All are quieter options than WCC, and you won't be straying too far from 'home' at the WL.

WCC is open to the lobby, so you can always check out the goings-on and decide if it might be something you'd all enjoy later in the trip.

My DH hates WCC. He enjoys the food okay but is a very shy and an easily embarassed person. The antics and attention they draw are just too much. He threatened to kill me if I asked for catsup or a refill on my diet soda!:rotfl2:

I would just grab a bite to eat at the Roaring Forks...They have increased their selection of food over the past few years...There are tons of good options there...Make a ADR for breakfast or dinner at the WCC on another night and tell your server not to bother your DH too much...They will leave you alone if you ask...And they would never do anything to upset you...They are fun and loud but they mean no harm.

We left early (but not as early as you) and had WCC as our first night ressie- and we went to MK before and after. We all really enjoyed it. I especially loved it because I was the only one who knew what was going to happen. I did let DS5 know a few things. He almost peed his pants from laughing so hard. This is probably one of the best dinner experiences for him.

I had the pasta and it was good- better than I expected. It was kind of like carbonara which I really like. I didn't eat much because younger DS was asleep in my lap the whole meal. Is there anyway that you can nap before the meal?

The restaurant itself is enough to wake the dead! I would prefer this over a slow paced, quiet restaurant that would put me to sleep! On the other hand, maybe a quick counter service may be better. After the car ride, plane trip, another car ride...we prefer to be on our feet a bit (counter service). Sitting for another 2 hours for a meal doesnt sound fun!

My family flys frequently. Though I still get jittery and excited as we approach the airport (for those from MA, the best feeling in the world is going through the tunnel knowing your on vacation!!!) the rest of my family sleeps in the car and on the plane and are ready to go when we get there. So...it all depends on your family. You know them best!!

Before we moved to FL, we usually stayed at WL and WCC was our typical first lunch upon arrival. It is definitely loud, raucous, and not for the shy or faint of heart or easily embarrassed (example: one day our sever returned to our table yelling, "It went through! Can you believe his credit card finally went through?!" about DH...it was hilarious but the faint of heart would probably have been hiding under the table).

There is a section in the back that seems less rowdy. We were seated there once for dinner...it was just DH and I so they may have thought we wanted a quieter meal. I imagine you could request that area.

Good suggestion...You should request that back area by the fireplace...We too had dinner there on our honeymoon...There was less noise, the server was pleasant and did not come with all the sillyness...We really liked eating back there because it was quieter and the food was great that night...That is when we "fell in love" with the WCC and the lodge itself :lovestruc

I think this depends on the age/personality of your kids too. We did WCC after a short day at AK but my kids were exhausted before we got there. The excitement and noise was to much for my stimulation sensitive child (add exhaustion to the mix) and it was nothing but meltdown city for him. What little food DH and I shoved down as fast as we could was good though.

It won't be quiet, that's for certain. And if your family isn't comfortable with possibly being the center of attention and the butt of jokes, it would be terribly unwise to attempt WCC at any time, never mind after a long travel day. However, if good nature and humor are present, that can go a long way towards alleviating travel fatigue.

As others have said, you need to decide based on your knowledge of your specific crew.

Good luck!

It was a bit much for us last September. That is what is making me rethink why I didn't like eating there, maybe we were too tired:confused3 . I'd try it for another time when you are more rested:goodvibes

It was too much for us and we were pretty rested ;)

We've eaten there three times, and we have no plans to return. My middle son in particular does not like it at all. The noise really bothers him, and if kids are tired, it's much worse. If you have doubts, skip it.
