Whispering Canyon Cafe - share your experience!

The first time we went, my family and I had a great time. The waiter was great, he was funny and having a good time. The ketchup things had my kids smiling. And all the dads (including me) got up to do the little girl dance (the name escapes me). It was a great time and both kids wanted to make sure we went back when we went to Disney again.

And we did. It was shortly after they started the Disney Dining plan. And things were different. our waiter wasn't having a good time; he was working. And it wasn't limited to just him; it seemed to be all the wait staff. My daughter didn't even finish dinner; she was so unhappy she wanted to leave the table half way through the meal.

I don't know if we'll go back. We might but I'd have to hear that the restaurant has gone back to what it used to be.

Just wanted to say that we went when on the Dining Plan (free, too) and had a great time. Our server, Prairie Girl, was great! She even literally climbed up on tables & chairs to take our pictures. :upsidedow Just don't want to discourage anyone from going if on the DP.

I went with my family of seven in June and had a great time. It was my sons 15th birthday and they made him ride the wooden pony all around the restaurant. I was corny but a great time. We really enjoyed the boat ride from the MK to the Restaurant. I think to have fun you have to want to have fun and promt your servers and I promise you will have a great time. Dave:yay: :yay: :yay:

I have to respectfully disagree here. We really wanted to have fun and prompted our waiter several times. He just wasn't too into it, and as i stated earlier we were sitting in that horrible section between dining rooms.

I think we would have had more fun in the main dining area, so my advice is still - do not sit in that little alcove area between the dining rooms. There are so few tables there and it's just not very lively at all.

This is a must-do for us every trip! We love the food and have always had great waitstaff.

Tip #1. Do not get the bottomless milkshake as your drink!!!! We did that and by the time our food got there we were full. (the milkshakes were quite tasty though!)

We had a great time. My MIL called while we were there and our waiter took my phone and passed it around the restaurant so "other people could entertain her while this little lady pays for her dinner." :) It was pretty hilarious. We were also told we were involved in a big coloring contest with the table of 2-6 year olds at the table next to us. When we were done our waiter took our pictures and hung them up on the "wall of fame." Yeah. We were the only two pictures up there. :)

It was a nice time and we were lucky to get a great waiter.

DH and I went on Dec 4 for our anniversary. We did a late lunch and there was almost no one there. Our server didn't really do any antics but that was fine with us since it was quiet and we just enjoyed ourselves trying to see how many of those good ribs we could eat. There were a few other tables there that were instigating antics and the servers were happy to oblige. They did to the pony races and everyone had to waive their napkin but that was the only real antic thing we did. It was a really nice atmosphere and we can't wait to go back but this time try dinner.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I'm thinking about taking my DW, DS & DD there is Feb. for my DW B-day dinner, what do you think? good place for that or not?

I'm not sure everyone in my family (especially the teens) will like this stuff. I can't see my very shy 15 yr old nephew being comfortable riding a horse around the dining room table. Geez,I was really looking forward to this place but now,I'm not so sure...

I've been once. The food was fairly good. The Triple Chocolate Mousse Stampede was excellent. The service was good, nothing outstanding. We waited 50 minutes for a table! We had a PS (before ADRs) and still had to wait. The party that checked in at the podium after us didn't have reservations and were seated before me and DH. They put us at a 4 person table, so it wasn't that they were waiting for a 2 top. When I decide to forgive them and give it another try, I'll get an ADR for opening time. :thumbsup2

My DS-14 at the time got put in "jail" and my DD-9 at the time got tons of ketchsup and lost a tooth and was visited the the "tooth fairy"! We had a great time!

We have gone about 5 times and it really does depend on your server. Some are just normal servers and some REALLY get into it and have fun with you.

My family has never been all that impressed with the food - but we stay at the villas and it is a nice close restaurant.

We enjoy the all you can eat dinner better than ordering off teh menu. Last June I almost sent my meal back and I have never done that before. The pork chop was incredibly dry and tasteless.

Oh well.:confused3

This is one of the many few places i will make ressies for future trips. We didnt get the experience of all of the crazy antics, but we did love the food more than most other places we had ADR's at (and they were at all the big fan favorites at WDW). The chicken, sausage and ribs were actually pretty good. I thought it was gonna taste like institutional food (cafeteria food) but was surprised they actually smoked the meat. The Famous Canyon Skillet All-You-Care-To-Enjoy platter is awesome. You've gotta try it!!!

My husband got the huge drink after polishing his regular size Coke off twice. This prompted our server to stand on a chair behind dh and give him the huge glass you see in someone's picture above. After the glass presentation, he called for everyone to be quiet and said, "Please keep your children away from this man. He has a Coke problem." I laughed until I was in tears.

This antic was followed up by the ketchup bringing and taking, a backflip by a waiter to stop a kid from crying after she dropped her plate in the floor, and some cell phone antics.

I think it is important to remember that if you are going to WCC and want the antics, you must go at dinner. They do not 'perform' at lunch. Also, when you check in tell the host/hostess that you want a waitperson who is in FULL character. This should help you get the antics you are looking for. :)

We were there in September and loved it! It was just us (2 adults) and we enjoyed watching everyone get tortured! Our server (Hi Suzanne!) tried to get us to participate, but didn't push it. We thought the food was good..especially the pulled pork, mashed potatoes, and cornbread from the skillet. The breakfast was the best!

Loud, rude, offensive, and at a point made us feel uncomfortable. We went to lunch in early February at the end of the lunch hour. Three tables were occupied and the loud mouth cast member referred to us as grandma and grandpa a number of times causing the guest at the other tables to chuckle almost to the point of us leaving. We had eaten there three previous times and never had such an experience. If my wife had her way we would have walked out. Needless to say we won’t go back again.

We went last Feb at the recommendation of a CM at Epcot. We had an awesome time. Jenna was our waitress and we couldn't have asked for anyone better.

My DD2 was very apprehensive around most strangers. Jenna took the time to lure her out. She probably spent 5 minutes sitting with us handing DD straws, crayons and whatever she could come up with. By the end she loved her and was even wearing her hat.

So yes, it sounds like it is very dependent on who you get. But I guess we were there on a good night cause I remember them doing all the things that people mentioned.

The food was fine. Very similar to what we had at HDDR.

When I got the large Coke, I had the waiter yell "Be warned. Don't follow this man into the pool; he's on his third Coke"!

We went for both breakfast and dinner during our trip the 2nd week of December. We didn't care so much if we participated in the antics, but we loved watching it. We thought the food was quite good during dinner. Most of us got the skillet. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and the pulled pork was fabulous (dinner was fairly early, at 5pm)! Breakfast was decent, but not really worth the price IMO.

Fair warning, this is a very LOUD dining experience, so be prepared.

We went in April '06 and loved it! The food was wonderful and antics full of spirit. I think the key is to go in the evening if you want a good "show".

DH was also presented with the large coke. :lmao: Everyone was also warned to stay away from him in the pool.

Our first two experiences here were O.K. The first time, although I knew about the antics when I booked, after a long day at the parks and having a suprememe headache I just wasn't in the mood. Too bad for me, because our server was having none of it and was a little over the top.

Second time was barely any interaction at all.

Third time was the charm this summer when we celebrated DD's birthday there. Our server was perfect! Made a really big deal of her special day along with other kids who were celebrating. The games were fun, but not over the top. Just the right amount of rowdiness as well.

I think some of the PP are correct. Alot depends on the server AND on your frame of mind at the time.

The food, IMO is mediocre, but my kids and surprisingly DH LOVE the place.
