I think I'm the only person out of the loop. I made ADR for dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe for our June trip. I made the ressie based on friend recommendations. But, I still don't really get it. What's the theme? Entertainment?

Also, we will be going to MK after dinner. Can you Dis-ers tell me the best transportation between MK and Whispering Canyon?

Thanks for the info.

Can anyone tell me about Whispering Canyon?

Not sure if I should keep this dinner ADR.

Thanks

I went last night, had the skillet, it was great! The meat on the ribs fell right off of the bone!

If you want theeming, ask for catsup, tell your server you need a certain color of crayon, wear a Universal or Seaworld T-Shirt.

Dont want to give too much away, but its a lot of fun and the food is great!

Best transportation is to walk down past the pool and hop on the boat, takes you right to the MK.

Have fun!

after dinner, your best mode of transport to MK is bus. you can take the boat but i believe it will go to FW first and will probably be close to 45 minutes total travel time.

the restaurant is just rambunctious. loud, rowdy, and sarcastic humor. assuming you get seated in the main area

The theme is a hootin' and hollerin' Western type theme..... The food is "Bar b cue" you can see the menu in the dining section of the Dis.... My family loves it there. The food is B-, C+ barbecue, but the atmosphere brings the rating of this restaurant up in my book.

I would also consider the servers more like "Performers" than waiters/waitresses.........they will surprise you with their theatrics :rolleyes1 Great fun for kids, as well, which is 3/4 of the reason we go back every year.

Also, it is easy as pie to get to MK from there. Just head out the back of the Wilderness Lodge, past the pool and down the path to the left of the Fire Rock Geyser, you can catch a quick boat to the MK......

My advice would be to keep the ressie, but that's just me.......and Oh, yeah, I'm a barbecue junkie...............

One word of warning. There is a lot of cast member interaction with the diners. This is the restaurants specialty. It gets loud. If you are the type that doesn't like attention drawn to them, you may want to cancel. We love it.

For example,
last summer I went with my cousins "Priscialla & Artie". Every one else was at the podium waiting for them. The CM got on the mike and yelled across WL lobby "Priscilla and Artie get the lead out, we're hungry".

I havent been there yet (planning a trip for October yay!) but check out this thread for some WCC birthday fun! Look at post #716.

Hmmm....well apparently my post count is too low to post a link.

But you can to a search for "The meanest mother in the world" then go to page 48 post #716 for a trip report about a birthday lunch at WCC and great photos!

Just a warning though this rest. seems to be running hot or cold. The night we went it was terrible, no antics, no interaction, fair food and terribly slow service. If this thread goes on long enough you will get both kind of reviews. It really seems to depend on who is working when you go.

We were there at the beginning of May and it never took 45 minutes to get anywhere on the boats. They usually have 2 boats running, one that goes to FW and one going to Comtemp and MK. It was the best way to get around. We rarely rode a bus, maybe 3-4 times the entire week. Anyway, we had a blast at WCC. Our waiter Mat was quite the character!! The food is great and it was a ton of fun!!

Jan '05 I took my son and his then 8 y/o daughter without telling them anything about the restaurant. We were seated dead center in the main room with an absolutely hilariously funny waitress. When we were seated ,she was sitting over on the floor playing ring around the posy with a couple of little girls. As we were seated she yelled out "I'll get to you when I get around to it". When she finally came over she threw a bunch of straws across the table at my son and said 'What do you want?" My son looked a little unsure and said 'a menu'?. She put both hands on her hips, gave him a disgusted look, and said 'What do you think I am? a waitress?". I thought my son was going to choke. Anyway, during the night she stuck straws in my GD's hair to make her the Statue of Liberty, we got a table full of catsup bottles, my son made the mistake of asking for a coke refill and got a really HUGE glass jar of coke. He gave me a panicked look and whispered "Help, what am I going to do? There's no telling what she's going to do if I don't finish this". She called him 'coke boy' the rest of the night. We had to all stand up and do the Hokey Pokey for our supper. Even my normally shy son jumped staight up when she ordered our section to do it. I told him I couldn't believe he was participating and he said he was too scared not to. Oh, she also asked my GD if her dad was single, then proceeded to set him up with two young ladies his age who had refused to partcipate in the Hokey Pokey. Anyway that's some of the stuff we experienced that night. I wasn't sure if my son would like it or be horrified. Surprisingly, after his initial shock wore off, he loved it. Sept '05 I took my younger son and D-I-L down there and as soon as she heard we were going my GD called and said to make sure we took them to the restaurant with the 'crazy waitress'.

We enjoyed the boat ride from MK to WL more than the WCC! I am from southern Missouri though, and have had really good barbeque in KC and Memphis and the food at WCC is just fair in my opinion. The interaction wasn't great when we were there in May but we were in the side area, not in the main room where there was a little interaction going on.
Our waiter was ok, but not really entertaining as I have read of some CM being.

We loved Ohana and Cape May , but I won't be returning to WCC on my trip next year.
I think everyone has different experiences though and and it depends on your server and where you are seated. If we had been more involved in the interaction, I might not have minded the food being just "ok".

May I ask where in Southern Missouri? I am in Springfield and was there in May as well.

Hello, I am from Thayer, right on the Arkansas line. I flew into St Louis on my return on 5/25 to get a phone call that my DD broke her ankle and was at St Johns for surgery so drove to Spfld for a couple of days. We return next week for follow up.I love Springfield and do a lot of shopping there.

We are also doing WC on our Dec. trip. We are staying @ POP, do we need to take the bus to MK and then take the boat to WL?

I think WCC is a like or dislike kind of place. DBF and I ate there twice on our last trip (lunch and breakfast) only because we were staying at the WL and we needed somewhere to eat fast. I wasn't really a fan of the atmosphere, but I knew what it was before going in, so I wasn't surprised. I'm not sure who you're travelling with, but if you're looking for a nice quiet dinner, this isn't the place for you! If you have kids, I think they'll get a kick out of it, and a lot of adults do too. I must have had a "don't mess with me" look (I know, I know... not very Disney of me) both times we ate there because our servers never even raised their voices while they were at our tables. DBF did get a giant jar of water because he asked for a large water, but that was it. We did think it was cute when they had the kids run around the restaurant on the stick ponies and we did participate by waving our napkins over our heads, so we weren't complete meanies!

Our family loved The Whispering Canyon. The food was great and my husband said the ribs that were in his skillet were some of the best he has ever had. We were at lunch and it was a little noisy for a few minutes but for the most part it wasn't any noisier than any other family restaurant. Don't cancel your reservation !!!
