I'm sure this has been asked before, but as Disney frequently changes their policies, just wanted some updated information. We are going to have to pay out of pocket for one of our meals, I have narrowed it down to either Tusker House Breakfast with Rivers of Light Package, or Whispering Canyon for dinner. It is my understanding that at Whispering Canyon you can get one of the free refill milkshakes as your beverage and also a desert on the dining plan? Is this still correct? This would be unnecessary for us as we don't need that many sweets, Making whispering Canyon cheaper if we forgo the dessert and just get the platter and the milkshake.

If buying out of pocket, you both would be charged the skillet price and the milkshake price and would not have a desert.
If using the plan, you would each get the skillet and could have the milkshake and a desert.

To me, in your case, it would all depend on what the TH breakfast costs vs. buying from the menu at WC with the milkshake and no desert. I would think since TH is a character breakfast it would be more but haven't looked up the prices lately.

TH:
bfast-RoL:. 05/17/2017 Adult: $39.41, Child: $24.50

The WCC skillet is listed as $32 per person, shakes $8.50.

Thanks for the information. The prices are very similar, with the exception of the kids meal. My dd would not get the platter at Whispering Canyon, making that meal slightly less expensive.
We also weren't planning on sharing the platters or shakes. I was making the point if we could get shakes as a beverage, we wouldn't want another dessert in addition.

When we've eaten there in the past on the ddp we've been offered large bottles of mineral water to go as our "dessert" which was nice because we couldn't have eaten any more.

Are these the cheapest TS meals you have planned? Tusker House doesn't tend to be cheap and as others have said, you can't split one platter and shake. Price it out, but regardless, I would tend to pay OOP for the cheapest TS I have planned.

Yes, these are the cheapest two. We also have CRT, Ohana, Mama Melrose Fantasmic and Music of Pixar Live, Boma, and Garden Grill. We do not plan on splitting any meals.

That's good because every one of the places you've listed plus the Tusker House ROL package are fixed price meals so everyone 3 years and older will be charged. :)

The only time you could share is if you order something other than the Family Platter at Whispering Canyon.
