I just made a reservation for dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe for my Disney trip. I have never eaten there before and so I thought I would take a chance. Looks like a fun place to eat. Any idea what to expect there?

Are you going for good food? Or a fun time?

If its a fun time, then you'll be very happy. As long as you think fun is getting a couple dozen bottles of catchup when you ask for some. And your straws thrown at you. And horse races going on around you. Things like that.

DD3 and I really enjoyed it at Whispering Canyon. It's a little racuous, lots of yelling, and really quite fun. The food's good, too. I got the all you can eat BBQ, which is good enough (though not great). I really liked the corn bread.

DD loved the stick pony ride around the restaurant. Our waiter was kind of a nut. He taped the guy at the table next to us to his cup. THAT was funny.

We're planning to go back during our March trip. I think it's a good choice.

We really liked WCC. The atmosphere is fun and the staff is hilarious. You need to be in the mood for the atmosphere. My daughters are teenagers, so they didn't do the "pony rides", but it was fun to watch all the little kids.

We got the Canyon skillet, which is the family style all you can eat. We liked it. They'll bring you extra of whatever you like. So, if you don't like one part, they'll give you more of what you want. I hope this makes sense.

I will tell you though that because of visiting the Wilderness Lodge for this meal, we are now staying there this trip. We loved seeing the lodge and can't wait to stay there. :cheer2:

We are going back again in June.

WCC is one of our favorite meals at WDW. The atmosphere is loud and fun, the food is good and the kids have a great time!:thumbsup2

All you can drink milkshakes!:cloud9: Don't be afraid to ask them to mix the flavors too...mmmm orange chocolate

The only good thing about the place was the milkshake. The service was terrible, the food was mediocre at best (DH actually got sick on the chicken and/or ribs in the skillet--the only items I didn't try because the rest of it was awful) and we saw/heard none of the antics everyone talks about...even while waiting over 30 minutes for our table near the main dining room.

if you are looking for a quiet peaceful dinner this is not the place for you. it's fun, it's rowdy and it's interactive. :) kids especially have a blast at this place. the food i've had is ok but my husband really enjoys the meat items. (i'm a vegetarian so my options are limited.)

We liked the atmosphere - didn't really like the food (we got the family style too)

that said, my kids want to go back. :)

I would make sure you think you are going to like the food. The antics are hit and miss. We've had some servers really into it and other times we got nothing. Now that being said, the last time we went the food was really greasy and just not good. So it's not a place I can recommend going but many, many people here on the Dis love it.

Just wanted to add, the milkshakes are really, really good.

It's been a couple of years since we have eaten there and I ate there a few times. It was good food & good fun. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the replies and please keep them coming. I had a blast at the 50's Prime Time Cafe last year and was looking for an experience like it. So I really hope they throw all the straws at me! Have my fingers crossed about the food.

we ate there a couple of years ago and my kids were thrilled with the antics...we had no idea when we made the reservation that it would be that way and when my son asked for ketchup and got 13 bottles all of my kids were very tickled as were myself and my husband! Then when someone else asked for ketchup my son had to take them all 13 bottles! They made us hats out of our bandana napkins and let us take them with us. The food was good but that's not what's so memorable about eating here...it's the fun.

What's the deal with the antics? I mean, what makes it special? I've never even heard of this place. Off to research I suppose.

We love this place. We just ate there last week. We were a table of four adults and had a ball. We got the all you can eat skillet and everyone was really happy with the food. I don't generally love pulled pork but I love it at WCC. The other couple that was with us always ask to go there whenever they come to town. I've also ordered the pasta from the menu and that was mighty tasty as well. The wait staff usually gears their antics to each table but our waitress was funny, we did the hokey pokey and waved our napkins while the pony races took place it was a good time.

We're eating there for the first time when we go in March, all in our effort to go to places we've not been before (except for Boma - going twice at kids' request!) Expect the food to be okay, but hope we get the "full experience," as my kids should really get into it. They are the perfect ages.

Thanks to others for their feedback. Will now have to get a milkshake! Already planned on making my younger son ask for his favorite - kechup! :joker:

I don't want to give too much away, but be careful if you ask for refills on your drinks. This can be really funny. If you liked 50's Prime Time Cafe's atmosphere, you'll like this. It is different fun. You will get out of it what you put into it. On our first trip, we were a little leery (sp?) and our server picked up on that and kept it cool. It was great to watch the others though.

My DD loves ketchup, but when she saw what happens, she wouldn't ask for it. The server slipped her some on the sly. We thought that was really nice. The next time someone asked for ketchup, I took it to the table.

We are going back because we are staying at the lodge, and it is one place we wanted to return to. Especially DH:cool1:

We always try to make it to WCC, for either lunch or dinner, we love that restaurant! The food isn't high-end, but it's good, and we enjoy the atmosphere.

Our last visit was a couple weeks ago for dinner, two of us had the skillet, one the rib-eye, and we all enjoyed our food. And the bottomless shakes are very good, I love the orange creamsicle. The atmosphere was a bit more subdued than we've seen in the past, but there seemed to be quite a few new servers on duty, so maybe that is the reason. The pony rides and ketchup were as fun as always, though!

We have been there twice and enjoyed it both times. The food was better the first time. It was more fun the second time just because I was more relaxed. But I do think you will enjoy it.
