I am trying to convince hubby to add a 4 night cruise to our
disney trip next summer...

is it worth paying more for a porthole versus an inside cabin
($200 more) or for a verandah ($650 more).

thanks?

This is really a personal decision--only you can decide whether a window or verandah is worth the extra money. I've cruised with both and in an 11, and spend little time in the room....so I'm happy to be on the ship. I'd rather cruise more times at a lower level than pay for the extra cabin upgrade. However, I've been delighted with a free upgrade a couple of times.

On the four day, I'd skip the verandah. There's so much to cram in on a 4 day, we've never spent much time in the room. The seven day offers us more time to relax, so we go with a verandah for those. I personally can't cruise inside -- gotta have a window of some sort, so I'd go with the porthole. But it really is a matter of personal preference and how much time you think you'd spend on that verandah.

I agree with DisneeFun - four days will seem too short as it is on the ship, I don't expect you'll find much time for the verandah (you can always find some quiet time on the Deck 4 lounge chairs, or the "secret" Deck 7 deck)

That being said, anyone i've ever known who have cruised (in general) say to upgrade to a balcony if you can!

But if it were me, on a four day, i'd take the inside and use the extra $$ on shipboard credits.

Happy Planning!:earsgirl: :earsboy:

I agree...it is a personal choice, but if you're asking, then I'll tell you what I think. ;) LOL

We've done two 4-day cruises and one 7-day. For the 7-day the verandah got a lot of use and was worth the money. For the first 4-day I originally had a CAT11 booked but panicked two months prior and switched to a Cat5. I didn't feel like it was worth it for only 4 nights so last 4-day I booked a Cat11 but upgraded to a Cat8 at Port. If I were to go on a 4-day again, I'd skip the verandah and get a porthole.

The verandahs are wonderful and if you have the extra money go for it, but don't sweat it if you don't. An inside stateroom or a porthole is just as wonderful == especially for only 4 nights. There is so much to do on the cruise and so much to see and experience, that you'll probably spend less time loafing around in your stateroom.

If you don't get a verandah, you can always relax on the 'secret' decks with the comfy chairs (such as deck 7). That is a great way to get some quiet and calm moments.

Also, if you wait until you get to Port to check in, inquire about paying for an upgrade. If they're available, you'll get it at a lower price than if you called to upgrade a month or two prior to your cruise -- learned that lesson the hard way!

Overall, you're on a Disney Cruise! You'll have a blast no matter what!

GOOD LUCK with your decision!

Happy sailing! :)

For my husband and I the porthole is a necessity as we are both slightly claustrophobic.

I had to vote for the cat. 6, with a price difference of only $350 I would say go for it.

It is personal preference and if you don't think you'll be in the room much than an inside or porthole might be great for you. Personally I love the verandas and spend time on them no matter how long or short the cruise is.

I love verandahs, but in this case I voted for the porthole. I wouldn't cruise with anything but a verandah on a trip longer than a 4 days. You, however, are trying to convince your dh to give it a try. The less $$$ it costs, the more likely he'll be to go for it! I need natural light. I can't be in a room without a window (I have tried it both ways). How do you feel about it? Do you think that you could be in an inside room? The choice is really up to you and what you are comfortable with.

Bon Voyage!

Have you ever been on a cruise?

If not, I don't think I would book an inside cabin for my first. I would go with a porthole and use the experience to help decide our future needs. We have only booked inside cabins on cruises with no days at sea, because we do like to go back and relax in the cabin during the day, and I like to see the ocean. If there is even 1 day at sea, we like to have a balcony, but that hasn't always happened, portholes have been fine.

We've only sailed Cat 6 and Cat 11. And just based on the storage space alone, I'd have to say that the upgrade to the deluxe is well worth the $100 difference (given that we are talking less than a 5% difference in price. You can review this thread on Deluxe v. Standard .

Otherwise, my answer would be to look for a cheaper time of year to sail because those prices are what I've been seeing for a 7 day cruise (but then our way of affording the cruise has been to always sale in the Sept-Oct cheap season).

I would recomend the inside deluxe stateroom. I dont think on a 4 day you would get a lot of use out of the balcony. The deluxe inside is nice because you have a bathroom with a sink and shower and another with a sink and toilet. This is very convenient, if you know what I mean!!

If there are just 2 of you - I would definately go with the Cat 11 and save the $$$$. If you are bringing a 3rd or 4th person you should go for a cat 10. You will be surprised how fast you can spend money on a trip that "has everything paid for". If this is your first cruise you won't know what you are missing and 4 days goes by way to fast to be spending much time in your room.
