Which would you do?

I am doing HS AH in 2 weeks during my birthday trip. Right now the plan is to have a later lunch at Steakhouse 71 and then either snack or grab QS (probably a Ronto Wrap for me) at HS when we get there. I'm interested in trying the burger and the chocolate cake.

I'm also considering doing a lighter lunch and then doing Roundup Rodeo BBQ between the hours of 7-9 before the actual AH starts. I wasn't too interested outside of the theming, but my DH recently mentioned he heard it was good and he never researches restaurants before we go. That's my job lol. This is assuming I can get a reservation as there are none currently. I did get an alert for an 8:55pm but that is a bit too late for me for dinner.

I like option 1 better, but it’s sweet that your husband actually did some research when that’s usually not his thing.

Maybe keep trying for an earlier reservation and if you get it, then do option 2.
If you don’t get an earlier time, stick with option 1.

Will you have time to go to SH71 on your trip if you don’t go the day of the AH?

I would honestly stick with the first plan. People have reported Roundup Rodeo is a very long meal (about 2 hours long) and given the amount heavy food, I would not want to run around a hot theme park getting on rides afterwards. It will cool off that time of night but it will still be warm. Personally I booked it as a lunch ADR to cap off our morning there and we intend to head back to our resort for our midday break afterwards.

If you really would like to do it though, definitely set an alert. Disney seems to be releasing them in batches. There was nothing available at 60+1 on our first ADR day, but I set alerts and a few days later a whole slew of them dropped all at once, which is how I got ours.

Is that your only HS day? If so, I would not spend a large chunk of it eating. I've never done AH there, looks like it is 7 PM -1 AM, but personally I would rather spend it visiting attractions.

Ronto wraps available at Ronto Roaster only until 3pm. After that you need to go to Docking Bay 7 to get them.

No, the that day is pretty much the only day I have to do SH71. I could do it the day we get in, but my plan is to hang around the Poly that day and do Tambu Lounge for dinner.

We went to Rodeo Roundup in early April and it's a one-and-done for me - it's SO much food and everything was on our table at the same time - it was kind of overwhelming, actually. Add that to the over-stimulating atmosphere and it just wasn't a very enjoyable meal. The food was good for the most part, but, if your goal is to spend time in the park, I don't know if I would take time out of your evening to do this. I like option 1 better.

I would stick to your plan, it's a waste of time imo to have an ADR during a paid for AH party. Round up Rodeo can be a really long meal. I've not eaten there but I've seen several disney vloggers that said it's a long meal especially when every time Andy comes on the PA, you have to freeze, so you can't even eat lol

I would get in the park at 7pm, start hitting rides and just do a QS. BTW- happy early birthday!

I think I am going to keep my current plan, but if we did do Roundup Rodeo it would technically be in the hours before the event starts. I figured it would be a way to let the crowds clear out, but you are right that I don't want to waste time.

And thank you!

I would stick with the first plan and do Steakhouse 71. We ate there in January and it was really good. Enjoyed the atmosphere too. I'm not a fan of buffet or family style restaurants. I feel like it's quantity over quality and I would rather have one plate of good food than 6 plates of mediocre food. I also tend to prefer restaurants not in the parks, they just seem to have better quality IMO.
