I am planning a trip to Disney to see the fireworks next 4th of July. With the new rates, my actual cost is $100 more than the tentaive rate I was booked under at POFQ. So now I am trying to decide if I should shorten my trip, switch resorts, or do a combo of both. I would switch to a Value resort, but have heard that they are crazy busy, and very noise that time of year. But I am willing to consider it. So which would you choose?

Oh, I want to add that I will be sticking to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot parks.

I would be happy with all but the CR for 3 nights...way to much $ to also have to shorten your trip.

My preference, in order

1) POFQ
2) Swan/Dolphin
3) POP

Of those choices, I picked POFQ. If it was possible though, what I would actually do would be stay at Pop and add a couple days onto the trip!

I would opt for the Swan/Dolphin since you will splitting time between MK and EP. At that time of year (crowds) the convenience of walking to EP will be worth it rather than waiting for the bus. And maybe you could add the extra day later if your finances should change. Happy Planning!

I screwed up the poll. Deduct one from Contemporary and add one to POFQ - I missed the number of days.

I'd much rather have 5 days in a mod than 3 or 4 in a deluxe.

Is your new quote really $100 more than before for 5 nights?

For a standard room at a Mod in Summer season, the price only when up $4 per night and July 4th weekend is $19 (each night, fri and sat) than 2007.

That's $50 more plus tax is $56.25. I'd check into that.

Anyway, I'm sure you were expecting some increase in prices for 2008. You've probably been picturing yourself at POFQ. I'd stay there if I were you. Even if the increase is $100, I think POFQ is worth it.

The reservation I made before the actual prices were announced came back at $928.10. When I put the same dates in to Disney's web site this morning, the quote came back at $1025.00

If I take the AAA rate deduction POFQ would be $871.25, and POP prefered would be $631. Will the $240 buy me better bus service, and a less crazy busy resort? That is my question in a nut-shell, I guess.

We absolutely LOVED POFQ!!! I would go for that. I have stayed at the CR before in a lagoon view room, which we did love it....but, we actually enjoyed our stay at POFQ just as much, and for a big difference in $$$$ it was just awesome!

I can only speak for the AS Sports, but yes, POFQ would buy you a much more relaxed atmosphere and better themeing. Also, you will have boat service to DTD. JMO :thumbsup2

I don't know about the bus service, but in my opinion POFQ would be "a less crazy busy resort".

The $240 would get you a less crazy resrot, that is for sure. Better bus service? I can't say for sure. In my opinion, the bus services at all the resorts are basically the same, so I never think about that.

What else would the $240 get you at POFQ?

In your room:

A Fridge
A coffee maker
Two sinks
Nicer furniture
A privacy curtain between the sink area and the room
An air conditioner that stays on while your not in the room
A little more space

Around the resort:

A water slide at the pool
A Hot Tub
A boat to DTD
An indoor lounge with entertainment
Beignets at the food court!!!!
Beautiful grounds

At Riverside (5-10 min walk):

5 quiet pools
another pool with waterslide
another indoor lounge with different entertainment
marina
Boatwrights (sit down restaurant)

So, in my opinion, yes, it's worth $240 more.

At this point in our lives (AARP members), we stay at the deluxe resorts. BUT, I did stay at POFQ in 2000. I thought it was beautifully designed, and landscaping was top-notch. I liked it, a lot. That was my poll pick. Downside is, you have to have a car or be prepared for some long bus waits on the 4th.

The Contemporary rate you show, unless it's a tower room, is not as good a deal as the extra 2 nights at POFQ, in my opinion. If it is a tower room, that's a decent rate for peak time, and fireworks are so much more accessible to you!

Swan--stayed there once, would not do it again on a bet. It may have changed since I stayed in 2001, but lack of Disney-level quality in design and upkeep were distracting. Value resort--don't know.

POFQ its our favorite resort. Its spacious, relaxing, has good food, the rooms are big, the buses are awesome, and the theme is really good too. POFQ is a favorite here.

I wouldn't consider Pop. Too many people and too far away in sweltering heat.:scared1: I would pick Dolphin hands down. Make sure you have a discounted rate. You may be able to see fireworks from this hotel too depending on your room. Personally I have always seen fireworks at either Epcot or MGM from our room when we have been there for New Years. They also have one of the best pool areas in Disney. Take the boat to Epcot and bus to MK. Great choices for dining. Access to the Boardwalk and Beach and Yacht Club. Entertainment in the evening........I would try to pay for another night. You won't regret it. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
