My mom and I are taking my 11yr old niece and 6yr old niece(her first trip) to WDW this October. We have reservations at the BWI for October 9-22. I knew we would be arriving Columbus Day weekend and it would be a little crowded until after Monday, but as I have been reading the boards, I discovered that many schools get the entire week off. I did not even think of this as the schools here only get the 1 day. I am thinking of changing the reservations to October 16-29. Do you think I should change it or leave it as is?? Does it get more crowed as Halloween approaches?? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Kristi

We usually go to WDW the middle two weeks in May. Has anyone has been to WDW in May and October and can give me a crowd comparison?

We go during the first 2 weeks of May and last 10 days of October. We find the crowds pretty much the same with the weekends being heavy. May's flower and garden festivities are about the same as Oct.'s food and wine festivities. While your first date will be crowded due to the columbus day weekend, the end of October is equally crowded due to Halloween activities. There are many conventions in October so that adds to the crowds. Also the locals enjoy visiting, esp. EPCOT during this time frame. You will find the weather nice in October also, not as humid as May. We still enjoy both timeframes equally as much. We will be at POP Oct. 20-31 and will probably go to MNSSHP either the 22nd or 24th. There is the FUNAI golf event in October, can't remember the dates, but thinking mid month, so keep that in mind too. October has become so popular now, I did read that starting next year, November room rates will remain at regular rates (as in the past they use to drop to value season after the end of October).

I have gone the first week in may and also at one time or another every week in october as well as the first week in november... I find that the first week in may is not too crowded but october is really not too crowded. I remember the first time I went in OCT I told myself there would not be any other month of the year that I would go!! Last year I went the day before halloween until the first week in November and we had a WONDERFUL time - crowds and weather were GREAT!!

Hope this helps.

One more question. I have read that the temperature gets up around the mid 80s in October, but what is it like in the morning and in the evening after the sun goes down. Is it too cold to wear shorts and t-shirts all day?

I have gone in Oct before and the weather was great, you can swim and will be comfortable in shorts and t-shirts. We are planning on going 10/16-10/23, and I am so very excited!
