Which Week To Stay in October?

Hello all! Hope all is well. I have a decision to make and need some thoughts/opinions. My family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids aged 9 and 5 year old twins) will be visiting Disney in October. We have been to Disney several times, but never in October. Where we live has a two week fall break from school in the middle of the month and would like opinions on which week would be better to go. The two weeks are the week of 10/14 and 10/21.

We are a very park centric family and spend most of our times in the parks and not a lot of time at the resort (we always stay at Caribbean Beach). That being said, crowd levels are probably the main deciding factor in which week we go. We're also interested in doing the Mickey's Not So Spooky event while we are there. The week of 10/21 is slightly more expensive, but not by much.

Has anyone been during this time? What are you thoughts?

The week of 10/14 is Columbus Day weekend (long weekend), so it may be more crowded, at least on that Monday. Take a look at the prices for Disney tickets, if the prices are higher one week over the other, that is probably the busier week.

I agree with looking at ticket prices as a guide to expected crowd levels. I’ll also point out that the later you get into October, the less likely your trip will be affected by a hurricane, and the weather might be a tiny bit cooler and less humid.

Oh,oh. Dummy me! We’re taking the grandchildren that week, because they’ve got a couple days off from school-“teachers work days, I guess”. I completely forgot about the holiday.

Thanks for the info, guys. That second week tickets are very slightly more expensive ($5 more per day). Thinking it may be worth it to dodge that Columbus Day crowd/hangover.

My thought is the first week will be busier. Many schools that have a fall break make it the week of Columbus day.

Here in PA we usually just get Friday and/or Monday for a long weekend.

Does anyone know if going mid-week to mid-week makes any difference?

I was there mid-week to mid-week, Thursday the 24th to Wednesday the 30th. We had great weather. The highs were mid 80s and the lows varied in the 60's. If you do EE you may find you want long sleeves, but it warms up nicely as soon as the sun comes up. We were lucky enough to go between hurricane threats and had beautiful dry sunny skies the whole time. We will go back this time of year again!

I just went Oct 26-29 and i felt the day i was leaving the 29th it was super empty (maybe because its a Tuesday). i wish i had stayed longer and the weather was amazing.

Not the same 2 weeks, but we were there Oct 26-Nov 9. Most of the first week felt dead, picking up (understandably with race weekend) on Fri Nov 1. For example, we had a 15 minute wait for seven dwarfs mine train around 10:15am on tues Oct 29. Yes a party night, but that was still pretty insane.

I'm not sure of FL, but I know there are schools in SC, NC, GA and TN at least that have that week off.
Nashville metro has that holiday week off for fall break but surrounding suburbs are 4th-10th, Knoxville is 4th-10th as well. Thinking it'll be earlier for many in 2025 just the way the calendar works this year.

We were there 10/20 - 11/1/24 and had a great time. The weather was great and we felt like the crowd levels were good. We were able to get so much done at during the day at MK on party nights, it was perfect!

Seems like every time we go in October I think "If we had gone just a week later it would have been cooler." This year we went on the 5th of November, and guess what? About a week to 10 days later it got cooler. It was marginally cooler, the humidity was a bit lower, but there was an afternoon at Epcot where I thought my face was on fire. At the end of the day you gotta go when you can, load up on sun screen, and pace yourself.
