Which week in January?

Hi everyone! We are coming to WDW in January as part of a month-long trip to the states (Miami, WDW, NY and Hawaii!) and had initially locked in the week of 2-8 Jan in order to line up with marathon weekend. Unfortunately, we didn't end up getting entry for the races, so now are considering avoiding that week/weekend all together.

We are wondering if it will be SIGNIFICANTLY quieter the week of the 8-14 Jan, and therefore worth switching to that week? I know it's hard to predict and that it's always going to be busy, but I thought perhaps avoiding the New Years run-off and the Thursday/Friday/Saturday of the marathon weekend might help.

I think it will be a significant difference.

I also missed out on race entries for my fam & would change our trip if we could… but we’ve planned a 2-wk trip and we have kids in college, so we don’t have much of a choice.

I believe it will make a big difference with crowds snd agree with @HappyDisneyWife that the later dates are a much better choice.

Many schools are not back in class until Jan 9 so until then it’s still prime Christmas vacation travel time.

We went the Saturday to Saturday the week before MLK weekend this year (Jan 8-15) and crowds were not bad at all. We've always done our extended family trips in October or November but are considering moving them to January going forward.

January is our preferred month now that we're empty nesters, and we've been there during all weeks of the month. I agree with posters above that Jan. 8-14 will be significantly quieter than the previous week, by avoiding the lingering post-holiday crowds as well as the Marathon Weekend guests, not to mention the Martin Luther King holiday week crowds, which will start to build during the weekend of the 14th and 15th. So yes, definitely worth switching your dates!

Agreed! We were hoping to go Jan of 23' but it's not going to happen so we're heading in the fall next year. But man did I want to go in Jan; perfect weather IMHO and fewer crowds.
