Thinking about renting at DVC next year. Just wondered if Disney provides better service with fixing problems in a unit or does the DVC? I know it is a big price difference but wondered if you felt the extra was worth it by renting from Disney? Hope this makes sense.

You are fulling taken care of by Disney either way, with regards to the quality of the rooms. DVC owners, or their guests, do not received daily mousekeeping, but if you need anything all you need do is call.

I don't really understand your question. Are you saying that Disney would fix DVC problems but not cash-CRO problems? Or vice versa???

If you rent directly from Disney through CRO, you will get a confirmation letter directly from Disney. You will be able to call Disney directly to make requests, etc. You will have daily full cleaning. You will have cancellation rights through Disney depending on their policies. If you have any problems, you will contact Disney directly for resolution.

If you rent from an owner, you cannot contact Member Services for any reason. They will not talk to you unless you are the owner. You cannot make any requests, the owner will need to do all that for you. You will have limited cleaning (7 nights or fewer for your stay, you get towels replaced and trash removed on day 4; 8 nights or more, you get full cleaning on day 4 and towels replaced and trash removed on day 8). The owner may not allow any cancellations because of conditions of their points. You may wind up with a reservation that you can't use and be out money. Disney will not be involved in any problems that you have with the owner or with the reservation. It is strictly a negotiation between you and the owner.

If you are talking about maintenance issues (bad A/C, burned out light bulb, malfunctioning microwave), then you call maintenance on the telephone, and they come and fix it. It doesn't matter if you're an owner, renter, or booked the room through Disney.

If you're talking about the differences in housekeeping between owners/renters and guests that booked through Disney, that's another story. Owners/renters get service every fourth day, alternating between full service and towel/trash only. You can get service more frequently, but there is a fee for each additional cleaning and/or towel set. If you book through Disney, you are treated like any other deluxe resort guest, and you get full service every day, including replacement of coffee supplies, etc.

Yes, I was talking about maintenance issues and I think you all answered them very well. Do you feel it is worth the extra for peace of mind with a reservation from Disney instead of a DVC member? So, if a room happens to have a big problem, Disney could move us but if we rent ,then it has to go through the owner of the DVC property?

If there is a maintenance issue with the rooms, you do not have to go through the DVC owner. Friends of mine went with us to OKW and had a soaked carpet (a/c overflow) They were moved to another studio without DVC having to contact me (even though I was at the resort, too.) Also, the bed was too firm to the wifes taste, they called the front desk and were provided with an egg crate-type foam topper. No need to get me involved at all.

However, if you are asking about the possibility of a courtesy room upgrade (studio to 1 bedroom, etc) it would not be possible if you are staying on DVC rented points...free upgrades are extremely rare, unless your room has to go out of service for a maintenance issue and there are no comparable sized rooms available.

No, no, no!

Prior to your arrival at the resort, there are some things you may want which can only be arranged by Member Services. Only members can call MS, so all of those requests have to go through the member you rent from, and that member remains fully in control of your ressie.

Once you check in, you are exactly the same as any other guest. If you have a maintenance issue, you call housekeeping or engineering and it will be handled. They have no idea how you happened to acquire your room.

However, DVC will not move you because you "don't like" the room - or if they do they will charge you a fee to move. They'll move you if there is a problem severe enough to warrent moving, but your definition of severe and Disney's may not be the same.

Thanks for the help guys. I was worried that if we rented we may be left high and dry if there was a problem. That is good to hear that the reservation is treated the same if there is a maintenance problem.

Crisi's right, and this is exactly our situation as owners as well. If the situation warrants it, we move free; if not (in the Mouse's opinion), we pay.

You sound as if you are expecting problems... DVC has very few problems with their rooms. Rest assured Disney will do their best to make you happy, especially if a difficult situation comes about. You're a potential owner... very important.
