This will be our first time going to WDW.

We are planning on going to WDW Jan. 1 -11 or 12.

We are wait for Alaska Airlines and WDW to sign their 2006 contracts for vacation packages. Hopefully will be done next week.

So....Which value resort?? And which building, ect..? pro's - con's for any of them?

A little info for you:

There will be 4 or 5 of us.
Me (42)
DH (48 and 6'4")
DS (19 and 6'3")
DM (68, My Mom)
and My Daughter may come (21)

I do know that I will have to get two rooms if all five of us go.

Thank You for the help.

We just came back from our first disney trip last month, September. We stayed at the All Star Sports and absolutely loved. Sports is the first to pick up and first to drop off for the bus. The rooms are a little small as there was 4 of us, we didn't spend too much time in there anyways. The pools were awesome and I will be going back next year. We stayed in the surfs up building with a parking lot view (not too great). Surfs up building is a preferred location which should of cost me more but received this upgrade when we checked in. I highly recommend the surfs up building. The next time that we go back, next September, we will traveling with 5 instead of 4 people so we have make reservations for 2 rooms to accomodate all of us.

On another note I guess it depends on the ages of the children that are traveling with you. My sons enjoyed Sports because they are older. Maybe younger ones with have a better vacation at Movies or Music.

Good Luck,
Lisa

Let me add that the surfs up or hoops hotels are the closest to the laundry services, food courts, and check in. You can get adjoining rooms also.

We have stayed at All Star Movies twice and love it. I really like the theming of it - it feels like you're at Disney. I found the bus service to be great and we also like the pools and the food court.

We have stayed at ASmusic and ASsports, and will be staying at ASmovies in December for 3 nights. We liked the sports but have wanted to try movies because it gets great reviews. I wanted to mention that the rooms at the values are rather small and only accomodate 4. If you could swing the cost of a moderate and stay at POR, if there are 5 of you, you could get a room with a trundle bed. The moderates also have more to offer. Pool/w slide, hot tub, sit down restaurant as well as a food court.

Yep, I have stayed at POP both times I have been in DW. It is really wonderful, you'd love it.

Thank you everyone, The more info I have we can plan a fanatic WDW vacation.

Which building would say you is the best one to stay in at:

POP?

AS Sport?

AS mo?

AS sport is the closest to every thing? value resort wise

Would it be a no no to bring a blow up mattress and our own sheets, for my 19 year old son? Note we would still get the required number of rooms. DH doesn't think that DS (19) would want to sleep in the same bed as DD (21) or with Grandma.

We (myself and DD) have always stayed at Music and have loved it. We don't spend much time in the room so the savings allow us to do many more things (special dinners, charater meals, etc). On our visit in Jan we will be staying at Sports for a change. We walked through Movies on our last trip and thought it was really cute, but seemed to have more little kids. Closer buildings to the main halls are nice after a very long day of walking in the parks. Pools are good and laundry facilities handy too.

We've stayed at all three of the All-Stars and at Pop twice. I'll be at Pop again the first week of December. The resorts are basically quite similar, but to my mind Pop has a couple of advantages:

1. The bus stops only there, no other resorts, so it means less time spent on the bus. (The All-Star buses go to all three so even if you get picked up first you are spending extra time sitting on a bus while they go to the others - and if you get picked up last you always have to stand.)

2. The lake in the middle is quite lovely and makes for a relaxing place to take a stroll in the evening or early morning.

3. I found the food court food selections better - more vegetarian/vegan options, which are important to my family.

I vote for POP although we had a problem during our last stay (our room wasn't cleaned between us and the previous occupants). I think the problem could have happened anywhere and someone cleaned it as we waited. The good thing was that we knew for certain that our sheets and towels were clean! Furthermore, management gave us a discount. I would stay at Pop again. I like the food court and shop. I also like that the bus only stops at Pop. We were in building 9 last time on the first floor. It is close to one of the pools (and I believe the laundry, but I'm not sure), the 90's parking lot and fairly close to the lake. The main building is a short walk. The only draw back to staying at Pop is that there isn't any internet service. I think Disney should add it at least in the main building.

My vote would be for POP as well. Having stayed in Moderate resorts on our trips, last year when we went as a family, we decided to stay at POP. We were pleasantly surprised. We expected the rooms to be TEENY (mind you, they're not BIG...but they were not as small as we expected them to be).

My kids loved everything about Pop and we can't wait to go back next year!

Thank You for the great info about POP. I like the thought that POP has its own bus.
Does POP's bus go every where in WDW?

And I still need to know:

"Would it be a no no to bring a blow up mattress and our own sheets, for my 19 year old son? Note we would still get the required number of rooms. DH doesn't think that DS (19) would want to sleep in the same bed as DD (21) or with Grandma."

Sharlene, we have done this in a moderate when we brought along my daughter's boyfriend, and it was no problem - mousekeeping even made the air mattress up with sheets and blankets for us!

However, I think it would be hard or maybe even impossible to do this in a value resort, just because I don't think there's enough floor space. Hubby and I spent one night at Pop last winter and looked carefully at the the room to determine if it could be done. We decided there was no way, and consequently booked a moderate for the next trip when the boyfriend was supposed to come along. As it turned out, they broke up before that trip so we could have stayed at a value after all, but we enjoyed POR anyway :)

We have stayed at Pop and All Star Sports, and I personal fave is Pop I think I enjoyed Pop more then the kids did. We are going back in Nov. and staying at All Star Music. We are trying to visit a different resort per vacation so far we have done 3 in 1 year.

I have only stayed at Pop Century, but I loved it...we stayed in the 50's bldg facing the bowling pin pool. It was close to the lobby and gift shop...so is the 60's bldgs!

Enjoy your trip! :cheer2:

It does not sound like anyone in your party would really be happy with a trundle bed due to their size.

I agree with the other poster, you won't be able to fit an air mattress in the value, no floor space.

It sounds like you may want to check into a moderate so you can go with the air mattress. If you will be a party of five you will be staying at POR, your only choice if you want to pay for only one room.
