Stay at a Deluxe resort at the end of August (Labour Day promotion), pay OOP for meals.

OR

Stay at a Moderate resort during the Food & Wine Festival (we've never been), possibility of free dining which would be upgraded to the DxDDP with a lot of Signature meals.

Unfortunately, we can't justify the $$$ for a Deluxe resort DURING F&W Festival so the compromise to moderate has to be made. Also for the record, we've only ever stayed at the value resorts so both Deluxe and Moderate would be new for us.

Which would you do and why?

I love F & Wand think the mods are nice enough, so that's the way I'd go.

Have fun, whichever way.

:)

Well for me its a no brainer..but it IS a personal preference. I would DEFINATELY go for fall. First off, the weather is not so horribly hot and humid. And secondly, my favorite time of year is fall. And lastly, the food and wine festival is a must do at least once.

Guess it depends on how important the F&W is to you? If you don't get the dining plan would you still be able to enjoy it?

I'd go in the Fall regardless; August heat is just way too much. And I like the mods, so I'd be good there too. :thumbsup2

Assuming you aren't working around kids' school vacation schedule, I'd definitely go with F&W in the fall. Better weather, F&W will be fun, far fewer kids, and the mods are great (I've stayed at them all, as well as Poly). I'd do F&W v. Labor day even if the price were a bit higher (for F&W).

Of course, its based on my personal preference. I just don't think that staying in a deluxe is so much better than a mod that it overcomes better weather, F&W, and fewer over-heated and cranky kids.

I would definitely go with the fall! It’s our favorite time of year there and we love F&WF! There is definitely more to see and do at WDW in the fall than August and it won’t be as hot, either. Plus, if you go in October you can catch MNSSHP at MK or the Osborne Lights and MVMCP, which are are generally up by the last weekend of F&WF in November.

I'd go in the fall regardless. I can't stand the heat of Florida summers (despite being born and raised there) so I avoid it at all costs. The Food and Wine Festival is pretty cool too so thats an added bonus. However I would have zero interest in Deluxe Dining because we had more than enough food with a regular plan and I prefer to snack around the WS that time of year to eating full meals.

Food and Wine is a great event. Also, the weather "might" be less miserable hot during F&W season. The end of August in Orlando can be quite hot, with almost daily thuderstorms in the afternoon. Can you tell I used to live on Orlando?

Stay at a moderate with Deluxe Dinning. I LOVE Deluxe Dinning!

August with the Labor Day promotion.

But that's because I like to go for 10-11 days/nights and can't pull my kids out of school that long.

I would love to stay Deluxe but can't afford it any other time.

We don't do the DDP. We pay OOP.

SO and I are planning an adults only F&W trip one day. :goodvibes

We've stayed at moderate resorts 3 times during Food and Wine Festival and were fortunate enough to get free dining for all of the trips. We love the Food and Wine Festival and LOVE Disney World during the fall months for many reasons! I'm from south Alabama and am acustomed to heat and humidity but you will not catch me there during August!!!

This is a no-brainer. Take the room discount and pay for food OOP. Always better/cheaper than 'free' dining.

I would choose the end of August in a deluxe. We have done end of August several times and have found the crowds to be quite manageable. Yes it is hot, but not like in July and we like to walk through the shops to cool off.
F&W just doesn't draw me in.

Deluxe in August. We did free dining at the end of August at FQ and WL for years until that labor day promotion gave us the opportunity to stay at YC for an incredible price. We like Food and Wine but it's always so much easier to take a week and not worry about school/activities etc., plus we don't do hard core park hours any longer, so for us the chance to stay at a deluxe is worth it! Whichever vacation you chose, you'll enjoy it!

I'd go during F&W. I've never been and looks like it would be great. I also wouldn't like that late August heat. Too much for me. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks everyone!

This is a 15 year anniversary trip for DH and myself so the kids' school schedules is not a factor. Nor is the heat. We've only ever been in September and find it hot but definitely bearable.

It will also be a lot more laid back trip. More time around the pool and leisurely dining experiences, less early morning rope drops, etc.

I think we'll go with the majority and stay at a moderate and go during F&W Festival. There is likely to be a lot to see and do at that time and Epcot is my favourite park as well. It would be a lot more handy location wise to be staying at Yacht or Beach Club (which is why I was considering the Labour Day promotion) but the benefits of going during F&W Festival outweigh it.

We definitely want to try the DxDDP at least once as well, but only if free dining is offered. For the dining experiences we want to have this trip, free dining is definitely a better discount for us than a room discount. Admittedly, I'm a little worried about it being too much food but I think if we do a breakfast/early lunch and late signature dinner, we'll be okay.

Thanks again!!
