DMiL was turned on to DVC this past spring and is just starting to look for a re-sale contract at OKW. Which UY should she be looking at if she is most likely to travel to WDW in Jan/Feb/Mar ?

TIA

Most likely December or January - right before they plan on traveling the most. That way, if they cancel, they have the longest possible time to use or bank those points from a cancelled trip.

(Just wanted to say - no surprise - I can never remember what months are available - I know December is, January will have to be confirmed by someone - Deb will probably come along behind me for the 10th time and list what they are!)

I don't think November and May are options but I could be wrong. I was thinking that they would want to bank by December 31st so wouldn't that make the best UY for them April (since I don't think May is offered) which would make them have to bank by November 30th and use by March 31st? I'm so confused!

Dec UY:
Points are good for stays from Dec 1, 2010 - Nov 30, 2011. You have through July 31, 2011 to bank your points into the next UY. If points are banked by July 31, they are good for stays from Dec 1, 2011 - Nov 30, 2012. Once banked, points cannot be banked again.

You can use the scenario above and think through different UY options. UY, IMHO, becomes much more important if you only travel once a year and bank points. For example, we had an Aug UY. When we banked points, those points expired at the end of July the following year. So even though we wanted to travel again in Aug the following year, I couldn't, or I would lose those banked points. It wasn't the end of the world, it was just a nuisance given when we travel.

I agree that Dec UY is the ideal one for the Jan/Feb/Mar time frame.
