If I buy in now which use years qualify for the 2009 free points?

I want to travel August 2011 using 2010-11 points and borrowing 2011-12, so wondered if there is any way that the free points could be banked to use in Aug 2011. Also which would be my best use year.

Thanks

Dec UY will give you 2009 points, that when banked, can be used for an August 2011 trip.

Your August 2011 trip would happen your Dec 2010 UY. Dec 2010 UY will run from Dec 1st, 2010 - Nov. 30th, 2011. A Sept and Oct UY would also work, but those are not the best UY for a trip in August since you would only have a month or two to use up points if you had to cancel or rearrange the trip.

Would I pay dues on the 2009 points?

And thanks for your informative reply.:)

Dues are based on calendar year, not use year. It would be pro-rated for 2010 if you buy direct. For example, if you buy on 7/1, you would pay 50% of 2010.

August, Sept, Oct or Dec use year should get you 2009 points if you buy direct.

Hi, thanks for your prompt reply. Would the pro rata dues for 2010 be payable on closing?

Also are there closing fees if buying direct from Disney?

There are closing fees - still around $300 I think.

I don't remember how we paid our dues in our purchase year, but I think it would be all up front (but maybe not at closing, but shortly thereafter) or if you go on the monthly payment plan, every month. But I don't really remember what ours was since we purchased a few years ago.

Thanks again, have emailed my guide with a host of questions, hope he gets back to me today while I am feeling brave.:goodvibes

If you are buying direct and want a Aug UY I beleive they will give you 2009 points to you in a banked status as long as you buy before July 31. Make sure you ask they have been waiving the banking window when buying direct.

I don't think an August uy would work for me, I want to use 3 years points in Aug 2011 - woudln't these run out July 31 2011 even if they gave them to me as banked?

Thanks

Yes, with an August UY the 2009 points banked into 2010 would expire July 31, 2011.

But if you could use those points separately, you could still have 3 years of points to use in August 2011 by banking 2010 points, using 2011 points, and borrowing 2012 points.

We bought on Monday and got a September UY and all 09 points. We do not need to pay the maint fee on these.

We bought at the Chicago event two weeks ago - OKW 2057 exp. October use year and got 2009 points. I called last Friday and banked them. I'm in the process now of sending back all the paperwork. What's funny about that is yesterday in the mail and e-mail I received pin codes for 40% off at the resorts...oh well.

In your situation you could purchase a Sep, Oct or Dec use year now and get 2009 points bankable into 2010 use year and thus useable for a trip in August 2011. If you purchased from Disney, you would be required to pay a pro rata portion of the 2010 calendar year dues calculated from date of purchase (not later date of closing). You can choose to pay them all as part of the closing or, if you have a US bank account, choose to have dues paid monthly via automatic withdrawal from your account. That withdrawal would start either the first of the month or 15th of the month (your choice) after closing. In other words, if you bought today you would owe just short of 7 months of dues for rest of year. You would not actually start paying if you adopt automatic monthly withdrawal until July or August.

If you get UY of September, October or December you will not be able to borrow 2012 points in for trip during August 2011 but would have available for this trip banked 2009 UY points (those points, depending upon UY, would expire 8/31 or 9/30 or 11/30) and current 2010 UY points and you could borrow in 2011 UY points.

Before deciding upon UY you may want to consider what your usual travel habits will be in years to come; beyond August 2011 will you usually travel during August or during 7 months following? it can be very helpful to have UY where your travel will take place during first 8 months of that UY so in event of cancellation you can still bank current UY points(which are points from UY during which that trip would occur) because it would not be past banking deadline ~and~ also to give you more time to reuse banked & borrowed points that are in canceled reservation before end of that UY.

Best wishes on your planning :goodvibes

My holidaying habits are likely to be August for as long as I can foresee. So a December use year would seem to be the best UY for me, does that seem right?

Thanks, Donna x

if you mostly travel in august, you should get a UY of june or august and not december.

My problem is I want to get the free 2009 points but I won't be vacationing until Aug 11. If I choose a June or August use year the free points will have expired even if I bank them.

When do I have to bank by if I have a December use year?

Thanks

My DSIL committed to buying in December 2009 but didn't pay until March and she was given 2009 points for a February use year. She had MS bank the points in March 2010 (after the 2009 points had expired). Because she recently purchased the points MS granted her the recent purchased exemption and banked the points outside of her banking window and UY. If you buy and August UY the same could be done for you. Let your guide know that it's a condition of the sale that you want the 2009 points with an August UY and see what the guide says.

The problem is that even if they let me bank the 2009 aug points they would expire 31 Jul 2011 and I would be travelling Aug 2011.
