Oct 10th, 2011, which US holiday is this? It is the Canadian Thanksgiving and we were planning on going down to OKW for part of this holiday. Also how difficult is it to book if you are planning on being there for more than just the holiday weekend at 11 months out? Any advise on how to book it. Plan on a 12 night stay with a Sunday or Monday check in (need a few days to travel down from Ontario). We could go the week before or check in on the Holiday Monday. Is this a very busy Hoilday at Disney given it falls during F&W?

TIA

We went last year at this time and it was Columbus Day. Not sure if that is it again, but I would bet money on it.

Yep, Columbus Day is celebrated on Oct 11 this year (traditional day is Oct 10).

October 11 is Columbus Day. It is not a major national holiday here in the US. It may give some a 3 day weekend, but it should not increase the guests at the WDW parks as much as the 4th of July, Christmas or Memorial Day.

Food and Wine will bring more guests to WDW than Columbus Day.

Enjoy. :cool1:

It's Canadian Day! Were we celebrate all things Canadian! ;)

Seriously, it's on the 11th this year:

October 11, 2010 (monday): Columbus Day (observed) [2nd monday in Oct]

It can be a busy time for DVC, due to F&W, Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Parties, plus possible conventions and golf events. I wouldn't be surprised however if you tried you maybe about to find something - OKW and SSR maybe your best bets. Great time of year to visit!

Columbus Day which is actually the 12th. It is a big North East Holiday. especially here in NY

At 11 months you should be able to book something- sure you might have trouble if your home resort is AK and you want concierge or maybe even a treehouse but if you call at the 11 month window you should be able to get something at your home resort. With it being during food and wine I would guess that BCV or BWV will be the hardest to get your choice of rooms but at 11 months with home resort priority you shouldn't have trouble getting a room.

Thanks everyone. OKW is our home resort and where we want to stay. Not planning much of park time as this really is what we are calling our relax trip. May decide to check out F&W but we aren't drinkers at all and not really big foodies either but I wouldn't rule it out. We may decide at 7 mths to see if we can get a few days at Vero just to add some beach time to our trip but only if we can get the OVIR for 5 nights either at the beginning or end of our trip. If we decide to leave that weekend should we expect a lot of traffic as we head north? Most likely would leave the Friday from either WDW or Vero travel all day, stop over night and finish our travel on the Saturday. Should we expect heavy traffic in the NorthEast end of the states?

you may run into leaf peekers. (sight seeres looking at the northern foliage), but the "traffic" is usually heading south from the NH/ME area on the observed Monday. Atleast that has been my experience.

Its my Moms Birthday !!! October 12 is Columbus Day. Always Observed on the second Monday of October. 10/11 this year. As someone else said, here in the NE its a great 3 day weekend for us. Dont know how many of us would travel to FL for a 3day weekend, but I am sure there are a few. We always head to PA for the long weekend to close up our campground.

Yep! Also my own birthday. 2009 was fabulous b/c it was celebrated ON the actual date! And I was at Disneyland. Disneyland, by the way, was insanely packed, I mean to the rafters, for Columbus Day weekend, including the Monday. I was shocked.

Didn't hear about it happening at WDW, but maybe all those DLR travelers from '09 will be hitting WDW in '10? It's always possible.

Have fun celebrating my (and PMDR's mom's) birthday if you're there on the 12th! ;)
