I am trying to decide which ADR to keep---we will start the day at HS, where should we eat lunch?
Hollywood and Vine Character Lunch OR Sci-Fi Dine In Theatre?
We are a party of 7---4 adults and 3 kids (DS8---DD6--DS2)
Need to cancel one of my ADR's soon!!
Pros---my 2 year old loves Playhouse Disney and could eat for Free off of the lunch buffet
I do think my 8 year old would like the Drive In Theatre
Help me choose---this is driving me crazy!!!

We do the Sci-Fi every trip- mainly because it is DS's (now 9) second facorite restaurant in WDW! My kids are too old to want to see the characters ay H&V. The food at the Sci-Fi is okay, but the atmosphere is great! I say if you haven't ever done the Sci-Fi, keep that one.

We have a 4 year old- the reason we picked the sci-fi was for quieter down time. Sci- fi is dark and a little more quiet.

H&V will be noisy, and a lot happening. Sci fi will give us a reprieve from the heat

I've done both:

H&V when DS was 4 and DD was 5
Sci Fi when DS was 5 and DD was 6

H&V didn't go over well with DS...at all. :sad2:

Goliath scared him so bad he cried (just by being in the vicinity) and he was nervously keeping his eye on the other three characters too. He didn't eat much as a result and was relieved when we left.

DD didn't care much for anyone but June. Wouldn't greet or get her photo taken with anyone but her.

Food isn't fantastic but isn't terrible either. Good selection and we found everything at a good temperature.

Things to consider:

It's loud and chaotic in there. The possibility of the little one being afraid of the characters. The possibility that the other two might be too old for the Playhouse characters.

Sci Fi was AMAZING!! I liked the food there and you can't beat the atmosphere. Couldn't get the kids to eat since they were entranced by the movie screen. :rotfl:

Kids are begging we go back to Sci Fi on our next trip so it was a clear winner for our family.

Things to consider:

It's dark in the movie theater...hard to see what you are eating so if the little one is afraid of the dark, this might not be for you.

I'd keep the character meal. In a few years your children will be too old to enjoy that one, Sci Fi will be there next time.

I like Sci Fi and it's a lot of fun. Character meals are always fun as well. Do you have others planned for the trip, if so Sci Fi is a fun and different type of place. You never will outgrow the character meals though!!!

I'd go with Sci-Fi. It's a fun and relaxing atmosphere for everyone. There are lots of opportunities to meet the Playhouse Disney Characters at DHS.

Definitley Sci-Fi, Hollywood and Vine is the only restaurant in Disney we will never go back to. The food was not good....think Golden Corral or Ryan's quality at Disney prices. Unless your children REALLY want to meet those characters (in that case you are paying for the interaction and food is passable....just not particularly good!) I would stay with Sci-Fi. The burgers, milshakes and onion rings are great, and the atmosphere is awesome. It is the one restaurant my DD8 requests year after year. :thumbsup2

I haven't been to Sci Fi, so I can't comment on that, but I totally agree with Donaldswife's assessment that H&V is similar in quality to Golden Corral. (I should clarify that I like Golden Corral as much as the next person, but don't want to waste valuable TS credits on food like it or pay Disney prices OOP when there are much better options out there!)
