We are going to WDW in December (13-17), and will be at the parks for 3 days.

I want a park hopper pass for that time, but have been trying to figure out in the long run if I'm better off to get pass with more days and save them for a future trip.

Ds will turn 5 on this trip. As of now, ds is going back to WDW over spring break with my ex (the passes for that trip are being supplied as part of the package from the band boosters and he won't need to buy a pass for ds).

I would like to take him camping at Ft Wilderness for our next trip, but have no idea if we would make it back next year or not. Where ds is going to WDW two times in five months it might be overload to go back for a THIRD time even if it was later in the year.

Does anyone have the cost breakdown per day for passes? And which pass would you recommend? The max I think I could handle in the parks on any one trip would be 3 or 4 days. Should I spring for the 10 day pass and use it over 3 trips, or just get the 7 day one for 2 trips, or save my $$ for now since I don't have any idea when we will be going back??

Thoughts?? suggestions? Side note is that if I am going to do this, I need to budget and buy them sooner than later because my homeowner's insurance is due in December and I won't have the cash around to buy them at the last minute.

Thanks!

Well, since tickets have never gone down in price and it sounds like you will go in the future, I say get the 10day with no exper. before it goes up in price. The ticket will be good for a long time. Disney has honored our old parkhopper passes, and some of them are over 7 years old....
I would get the longest tickets with the most options I could afford. But that is because we go as often as I can get us down there...
I have a PAP. DH doesn't, our DS , 13, has a PAP the other 2 kids don't. DS and I do cause we go to DQ every chance we get. However, I am thinking of getting the DQ 1 year Passport for that. Need to do the dreaded math...

I did a spreadsheet on the cost of tickets vs. their cost per day. I used Ticketmania for my calculations because I like the fact that they ship for free, so S&H fees are not a deciding factor in determining final ticket costs.

I found the following:
  • 3-day MYW Hopper (expiry) = $72.67/day
  • 4-day MYW Hopper (expiry) = $56.25/day
  • 5-day MYW Hopper (expiry) = $45.60/day
  • 6-day MYW Hopper (expiry) = $38.50/day
  • 7-day MYW Hopper (expiry) = $33.43/day

Compare those prices to non-expiry tickets with more days on them:
  • 7-day MYW Hopper (non-expiry) = $40.86/day
  • 8-day MYW Hopper (non-expiry) = $42.00/day
  • 9-day MYW Hopper (non-expiry) = $37.56/day
  • 10-day MYW Hopper (non-expiry) = $34.00/day

Even by factoring in the additional cost of adding no-expiration to the tickets, the 10-day cost-per-day is decidedly lower than that of the 4-, 5- and 6-day passes that expire. To me, if you have any intention of returning to WDW, it's worth purchasing the longest number of days that you can afford on a no-expiration pass. Just remember where you put those passes when you come back from your trip!

If I buy a 10-day no expiration pass and lose it sometime in the next several years before I use up all the days, is there a way to replace it through Disney without buying a brand new card?

I'm thinking of something like my subway fare card - if I lose it, the transit authority issues a replacement card (for a fee, of course) that still has all the money I had on my previous card. Will Disney do something similar if I lose a no-expiration pass but still have days left on that pass?

It's possible if you have a photocopy of the back of the pass. You can take the photocopy to Guest Services and have them look up the pass using the numbers that are located on the pass (each pass has a unique set of numbers). Even if you purchased your pass from a ticketbroker, you should still be able to replace a lost pass in this manner.
