I'm looking into getting a new car. My 3 door Saturn sports coupe just isn't cutting it with space anymore. My fiance and I are getting married next year and will be hopefully starting a family soon after, so I think it's time to grow up :) I've listed the ones I have seen so far that I like. The only real important things are leg/head room as we are both tall and good safety ratings. Things I would 'like' are:

a nice platinum color
Sirius/XM radio
multi disk CD
flip down DVD player
leather seats
sunroof
0% financing would be AWESOME because that's what I have now with my Saturn

Let me know what you think :)

GM is offering 0% financing, which certainly adds to the weight of the Chevy that you are considering. You could get any of the options you mentioned in most of those vehicles. Which one has a program that could push you off of the fence? I was considering equally the BMW 330 CiC, the Audi Quatro, both convertibles and the Cadillac CTS. When GM offerred 0%, it was a no brainer. I liked all of the cars but with 0%, I fell in love with the CTS.

I didn't know GM was still offering 0%. My sister just bought an Equinox in October when they were doing the employee disount thing and I really like it. There is SO MUCH leg room in the back seat. Thanks for the info. Happy shopping for your car. I like the BMW too, but it's a little out of my price range ;)

Er, with the current oil/gas problems, I wouldn't buy an SUV at all! DH and I are thinking of starting a family soon, and we just got a larger car (Mazda6). Plenty roomy, especially since we're not going to have 4 kids before it's paid off. :confused3 ;)

I love my Rav4 . It's the perfect size for me and fun to drive too. DH also loves to drive it despite the girly blue colour and princess antena topper :)

I don't know about cars, as don't pay any attention and don't know about financing, as don't finance, so can't help there.

But I still wanted to give you a heads up. The bigger the car, the more you pay for gas. We're spending about $180 a week on gas for two SUVs, a Buick Rendezvous and a Jeep Something (I dunno, it is DHs).

I'm not saying you can't afford to buy gas, but it keeps going up and a lot of folks don't realize how much gas these things really use until they get one. So it is just a word to the wise.

Not trying to discourage you. The SUVs are so much safer and you can NOT beat them on the snow! The difference is unbelievable!!! But they use a LOT of gas, especially if you weight them down.

I hope you love whatever car you get. :)

Not on your list but I was given a 2006 Subaru Tribeca as a loaner while my car is in the shop for a few days. I found I love it and will have a hard time giving it back ;). Nice sized smaller SUV with all the bells and whistles you want. Runs and rides great. Very impressed.

I would recommend the Pacifica. We loved ours. It rode like a dream, handled great, and was tough as a tank. You can get them with all the good stuff. We were sad to see that one go(lease was up). DW is now driving a 300m.

Just give it up and get a minivan.

I know nothing about any of these vehicles. Just a disclaimer there. But I think the Nissan Murano is way cool to look at, so that's what I voted for! :thumbsup2

Either the Honda or Toyota offer the best quality by a significant margin over most of the others. When folks figure cost, they rarely look down the road (so to speak) at costs in 3, 4, even 6 or 7 years ahead. Both the Honda and Toyota will retain more of their value when you're ready to trade them in and bring superb reliability to the dance floor. I've owned Chryslers, Dodges, Chevys, Fords, and others. None have matched the overall quality of either Honda or Toyota--yes, I own one of each now.

Good point about the gas use with an SUV. As long as you know that's what you're up against, then you should be okay. To be fair, the smaller SUVs you mostly mention get comparable gas mileage to most mini-vans these days. Good luck.

So true. I just sold my ten year old Odyssey (dings and all) for $7000. And I never spent a penny in repairs other than oil changes, etc.

Thanks! That is what I had noticed with my mom's CRV. It has about 110,000 miles on it and it still working great!

As for gas, that is the one thing that is holding me back from going out next week and sealing the deal. Right now it costs me about $30 to fill my tank and I know it will at least double with an SUV. Thanks for the reminder :)

I'm going to go check out the Pacifica and Tribeca!!

ETA: LOOOOOOOOVE the Butane Blue Pearl color of the Pacifica!!!

I have to say that I have the Toyota 4 runner (it is my fifth) can't beat them in my book, but if you drive alot really really consider the gas! I just paid 3.17 a gallon while in Wisconsin....at that rate it would have cost me about 75.00 for a tank full.....although it is not an SUV check out the Dodge Magnum, I rented one last year and it has lots of room and IMO I love it's looks.....had a Pacifica this last time and although it was nice I just felt funny in a mini van!! Everyone was calling it the soccer mom car!! and I have no kids.....Good luck with your new venture there will be many great deals now since it is almost the end of the model year and I would imagine many great deals on the gas guzzler SUV's!

I had an explorer for years and loved it when I owned it, but with everything I've seen and read in the past couple years, I'm so glad that I don't own it now. But when it came time for me to get something new last year, I just couldn't see myself in a little car. So I found a good compromise. I got a 4-cylindar Hyundai Tucson. Being a 4-cylindar, it definitely saved on gas. The storage space is great for us and while it still makes me feel like I'm in an SUV, it drives like a sporty car and I absolutely love it.

Not sure what you're looking for in terms of size, what your needs may be, but seriously...you will see a HUGE increase in what you end up paying for gas. To say nothing of the effect on the environment.

Good luck with whatever you do decide to purchase.

Have it, love it, wouldn't trade it for anything. Highly recommend Subarus!

While Honda and Toyota retain their trade in value, we rarely trade early to benefit from that. I would have been happy to continue driving my 2000 300M with 150K, but DS needed a car so I handed it down. Our first Ford Explorer went 200K. We were satisfied enough to get a second one. I have been happy with the reliability of the American cars that we have had.

I was going to say almost the exact same thing but I don't have to. sleepydog25 said it quite well! :thumbsup2 My Honda CR-V has run and run and run with NO problems whatsoever. It now has 153,000 miles and has never needed brakes. Routine maintenance is all its ever required. Gas mileage is good too. Plus the all wheel drive has saved my tush more than once. I would love to buy American but I've had too many problems with too many vehicles.

Most small or crossover SUV's get just as much mileage as larger cars. We get 28 highway with our Saturn Vue. You likely will not get 0% financing on Toyota or Honda. As much as I want to buy Toyota and help our hometown plant-I cannot justify the 10K additional cost(paying interest plus an additonal 5K on the sticker price) that would come with the Toyota or Honda.

I was just going through the same thing that you are. I JUST bought a '06 Toyota Rav-4 last week. I've only had it for a whopping 5 days, but I love it so far. The Toyota quality is what really sold me in the end. Plus, it looks great, too. :goodvibes I didn't realize that the '07 model has out yet for the Rav-4. I didn't see any. It's probably just as well, since then I would have had to decide on what year I wanted. At times, I'm decision-making impaired!
